The spelling SCHIWOCHLOWA is not registering to be proper Czech or Croatian sort of more like German.

source: www.ellisislandrecords.org Would you have any other US document? Have you checked into the church baptismal record of the children born to the ancestor? Her church marriage record should have her surname in proper spelling. Was she naturalized citizen or had social security numbers? Possible a better spelling of her name on those forms.

The first Czechs from Moravia and Bohemia arrived in Slavonia around 1750s, and were settled in Western Slavonia throughout the 19th century. Most Croatian Czechs live in Western Slavonia, especially around Daruvar. Smaller Czech population has created a northeast to north from Zagreb in the space between Bjelovar to Nasice, in the form of individual settlements.
But that is probably familiar to you. It's hard to say what exactly was her original surname ...

I want to thank you for your patience. You have been very kind. I've been trying to do this in between having our 7 grandchildren here to put up Christmas decorations, baking cookies, etc.--probably not a good idea. I think I had misspelled the surname at ellisisland site.
