From: Wilsons Historical Notes on Dubois Co. 1939:

Buried in the (Anson) Cavender Pioneer Cemetery, Dubois Co. IN:
Reuben Mathis died Oct. 1, 1870 age: 75 yrs, 8 mo., 9 days
Mary - wife of R. Mathis - died Jan. 29, 1849 age 48 years, 10 mo., 23 days
Samantha-wife of R. Mathis - died Jan. 29, 1852 (stone broken)

Mrs. Margaret E. Cavender Sherritt had the following brothers and sisters:
3. Frank Cavender, who married a daughter of Reuben Mathis ( a half-sister of Mrs. Wm. C. Brittain. This Mrs. Cavender died at Mrs. Sherritts home, while on a visit. Her remains were taken back to her western home (perhaps Iowa ?).
This information was obtained from John Walts, a neighbor, who was born Feb. 9, 1850 and was still living in Haysville in 1939.

Franklin Cavender on November 29, 1855 married Mary J. Mathis in Dubois Co. IN.

Franklin was born April 21, 1835, died May 28, 1910, and is buried in the Memory Cemetery in New Market, Taylor County, Iowa. Mary Mathis was born August 25, 1835.

Dec. 14, 1876 Dubois Co. IN ){ 3rd marriage for William, 2nd for Charity -- William and Charity are both buried in Sherrits Graveyard, Dubois Co.}

Reuben Mathis b. abt 1795 N. or S. Carolina, m. Mary Golightly b. abt 1800, they were in Dubois Co by 1818. Both Died in Dubois Co.
