My great grandfather, Erik John Palmer, emigrated from Gothenberg, Sweden, on 25 March 1892. I can't find the name of the ship. Can you help?

There was was an Eric Palmer, aged 26, (born abt 1866)on the "CITY OF BERLIN", departing Liverpool on 30th Mar 1892 to New York. He was Single. Labourer.

A lot of these voyages arrived in England, often at Hull,
then they would go by train to Liverpool for a second ship to
USA.

I can't be certain that this is your ancestor. But if his date of birth was around 1866, it might be.

Brian;

Thank you so much for the information. Erik John Palmer was in fact born in 1865 - close enough for me. I haven't been doing ancestry on my mother's side of the family for awhile. Glad to have the information. He was my great grandfather. Are you a relative?

Can you please give me the website where you got this information? Was it from ancestry?

Andrea,
It was on Find My Past. ...But I have just looked up Ancestry and the ship is there as well. However, instead of Eric Palmer, they give Eric T.E. Palmer, with the age (age 26) the same as the Eric Palmer on F.M.P.

Ancestry (page 15)gives his destination as Michigan, whereas F.M.P.(page 7) doesn't say at all. There are other Palmers on the ship and I wondered if it was a mix up. I don't know where the T.E. comes from on page 15 of Ancestry.

Do you know if he went to Michigan? If he did then I would think that it is still Eric - but I wish it showed as just plain Eric on each list. It's a puzzle!

Brian - He did indeed go to Michigan. He lived and married in Escanaba, Michigan. My grandfather was born in Escanaba. Tough, cold country. I don't know where the T comes from but the E is probably for his extra name that is not often found "Ek". In the Swedish military soldiers had to have a one syllable name to be called by. He picked "Ek". I will do my best to find this but my take awhile as I am sky high in other projects. Thanks again.
