Hello,
I am Franklin E. Ballowe, I am the son of Billy Wayne Ballowe Linda Virginia Woodie Ballowe. My Daddy is the son of the late Charles E. Ballowe, of Buckingham Co. Virginia. My Daddy's Mamma is Ruby Duncan Ballowe who is still living in Buckingham Co. Virginia. Charles E. Ballowe had some brothers and sisters too, but I will have to check up on their names for you.

Thank Franklin E. Ballowe from Virginia!

Sorry, Franklin, but there doesn't appear to be a connection. My ggrandfather spelled his name Ballou, and his parents were from Virginia (around 1810), but not the same spelling as yours. Our name changed from Ballou to Ballowe around 1870's. Thanks for the reply. Good luck in your search. - Mary

I am the grandaughter/adopted daughter of Phillip Pearson Ballowe, born July 14, 1889 in Fort Bend County, Richmond, Texas. He was the son of John
Adrence Ballowe 33yo and Lillian Millican 25yo both of whom are said to have been born in Brazoria County. Together they had 5 children at the time of this birth.
John A. was an atty. as was my Papa and his brothers. He had 1 sister that I know of, Annie Ballowe Lancaster of Dallas, Texas. Please contact me by email if you have any info on where this branch of the Family came from
My Mama always said that all who spelled the name this way were related closley.

Thank you for your reply, Heidi. My earliest Ballowe ancestor was William Ballou (b abt 1791 VA) and his wife Ann Eliza (last name?) (b abt 1809 VA). They are listed in the 1850 census in McCracken County KY, but the last name is spelled Ballew. My grandfather said our name was originally Ballou, but was changed with his generation though we don't know why. William was a carpenter, and they had living in their home Samuel age 22, Sarah 20, William 17, George 15, Marcellus 14, Randolph 12, Ephrain 8, and Martha 4, all born in Tennessee. The family moved to Kentucky where they were listed in the 1850 census. George Alexander, a brick mason, married 1868 KY Margaret Matilda Gladdish (b 3/1/1848 KY, d 1/29/1922 TX). George and Margaret had two children William E (b 1869 KY) and Addie M (b 1872 KY), then moved to White County AK and had Ray C. (b 1875 KY), Earnest R. (b 1876 AK, Don (b aft 1880 AK), Kate (b 1884? AK), and 7 others who died in childhood. They are listed in the 1880 census in Union Township TX, and the name is spelled Balew. Family stories have it that George was a drunk and was caught stealing horses in Arkansas and had to leave the state. They moved to Texas. Earnest, a stone mason, married 1906 Mary Melissa Sherrard (b 1885 TX, d 1977 TX) and they moved to Archer County TX. George is rumored to have been killed in a barroom brawl, and a Ballou was indeed killed in a brawl, but it was not our George. Earnest and Mary had 6 children, one of them my father. Mary's people are from Navarro County, TX.

His sister has done a lot of research on the family and even gone to England and France researching. I'll try to access her info also.. Thanks again, Regards, Heidi

Hi Mary.....Where in TN. were your ancestors located?

I had some in Knox, Marion, Smith, and DeKalb Co., TN.

One left TN., went to Christian Co., KY., then MO.
One left TN. went to Indiana, then Red River Co., TX.
Two went from TN. to MO.

All I know is that Mr. BALEW/BALLOU died 1825-1830 TN., then his widow Jane (?) BALEW is found in the 1830 Knox Co., TN. census. She later moved to Marion Co., TN. Jane was born 1790 KY., so she said in the 1850 census.

As far as I know, the children of Mr. BALEW & Jane were John born abt. 1810 NC., Elizabeth "Eliza" Ann born 1821, Robert Solomon born 1822, Joseph born 1825-1827 TN.

Just thought I would check with you and see if anything about the migration of these folks is similar to yours in TN.
