Carla,
My great grandparents were named Bellegante. Sebastiano was the great grandfather. My grandmother was his daughter. Her name was Mary Marie Bellegante. She married Victor Draper. As far as I know my great grandparents immigrated from Italy and moved to Iowa then Illinois, I have limited info however. I do not know the names of my grandmothers sisters or brothers. However i do know two brothers died mysterious deaths. My grandmother told me they lived over a cattle barn in Italy before coming to Iowa and she was three when they immigrated so that would have been in the early 1900's.. I hope this helps. If you have any info I would appreciate it if you emailed me. As I find out more I will continue to email you. Happy hunting:) Annette

Your PADOVICH is more likely PADAVIC. They came from Fuzine- Vrata and Sunger- Mrkopalj in Gorski Kotar region of Croatia, Primorsko-Goranska County.
The Mrkopalj Padavic settled in Iowa as PADAVICH. Linda and Fred webside has Iowa information:

The Illinois PADAVIC came from Vrata. I have information about the family and will gladly share.

Bellegante/Lira family names

Hello,
My great grandfather's name was Guglielmo Bellegante. Which part of Italy did your Bellegante relatives come from?Mine were from the province of Belluno. He married my great grandmother, whose name was Adele Lira. She had 2 sisters who immigrated to the US. One sister married and had twin girls and the other sister apparently died young. My Bellegante great grandfather also had cousins (with the same surname) who immigrated to the States and ended up in Illinois. IIf you have any information regarding this family tree, please share as my family is very interested. Thanks!

My grandmother lived in Green Rock Illinois most of her life after she married my grandfather. I have no idea what part of Italy they came from. I intend to research immigration records because she came from Italy when she was 3 yrs old. I do know they lived above a cattle barn when they were there. Strange, huh? She had a sister who went to Chicago I believe named Josephine possibly. Many sketchy details. I wish I could help more. I just dont have contact with that side of the family anymore. Thank you for the response. Maybe something will come of all this eventually. Annette

My Great Grandparents came from Yugoslavia. Some members of the family used Padavich and some dropped the H. They came to southern Illinois. My grandfather was Walter Padavic and his father went by both Padavic and Padavich. There are still cousins in southern Illinois. I ran into them a few years ago. Good luck let me know if I can be of any help. Shari Loyd

Andrew was my great grandfather. It sounds like the same family. I will find the letter from the cousin it has a lot of information. My mom knows some things also. He lived with them for a while. My grandfather and his brothers were sent to an orphanage after their mother died in the early 1900's. Their father could not take care of them. My great grandmothers name was Agnes Paskvan. Please let me know if you would like more information. Shari
