Hi Richard, It is the connection that I am familiar with, though I understand that some of the Carews did emigrate to USA.
The chap who konws a lot about the Carew family in the states is Tom Magness in Atlanta. I think he watches and subcscribes to this message board. he might be able to help.

Hello David and happy July 4th from Vermont,
I saw your posting on the message board and am wondering if you have any information about a Catherine Carew, who according to the family story was the widow of an Anglican or Church of Ireland Priest. She came to the US and settled in Syracuse, NY in 1847 or so. She was accompanied by a Patrick Hurley, age 21 (she was 35) and 6 daughters ranging in age from 1 1/2 to 10. In one ship's list, she is listed Catherine Hurley. At one point, Hurley was listed as the step-father of one of the daughters who ran away. Again, according to family stories he maiden name was Agar and her mother was Jane Lake.
Since I have hit a brickwall, anything which might be helpful or worthy prusuing would be most welcome.

I am sorry if my response has been delayed - I have been distracted onto other things lately.
In naswer to your question, I am unable to get at my files for the time being (moving House) but I note that you have been in touch with Tom Magness, who has provided much of the information that I hold.
I doubt therefore that I will be able to add to your search - nevertheless when the boxes are unpacked I shall be more than happy to look for you.
