To whoever posted the enquiry about Rebecca Dampier: I have a lot of information on the Dampiers that can take you back on that at least 3 proven generations with a couple of more speculative ones beyond that. For Rebecca's natal family, look for William Dampier who married Mary Sapp, 1834, in Lowndes Co GA. A good source is Folks Huxford "Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia", specifically Vol V, pp. 92-93 for Rebecca's family. Also contact me by e-mail .

Hi,
I wondered if you could help me. A distant relative of mine asked if Sparkman Dampier was named for the Sparkman family of Alachua Country, Fla. Sparkman's brother is Eugene Dampier, son of Bennie Dampier.

Thanks

Halle

These names didn't appear on my data base so I forwarded it to the Dampier Rootsweb mailing list. Here is what I got as an answer:

"The very first job I had was working for Bennie "Bunny" Dampier at his hamburger stand in Jacksonville Florida across from the Ship Yard when I was 11 years old. "Bunny's" brother was James Madison Sparkman Dampier. There parents were William Clark Dampier and Mary Elizabeth Cauthern. Mary
Elizabeth's mother was Celia Sparkman and her father was William Cauthern. So, it is a family name. I thought Eugene was adopted by Uncle "Bunny and Aunt Daisy. Hope this helps."

This came from Jim Dampier at JayDeecnc@aol.com

Cheers, Barry

Dear Dawn:

I don't have your grandparents' names in my data files, but that doesn't mean someone else can't help you. I am going to post your question to the Rootsweb Dampier mailing list as there are those on the list who descend from Dampiers in that part of the country, most of whom came down from Canada.
Unfortunately I cannot have people respond directly to you as I can't find your e-mail address on the Family History server.
You can also join (free) the Dampier mailing list if you wish by sending a message to:
DAMPIER-L-request@rootsweb.com and simply type the word subscribe in the message field. You can also search the Rootsweb archives at: http://searches2.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl If you wish you may contact me at michie@flinthills.com

Surnames: DAMPIER
I am granddaughter of Thomas Dampier of Nekoosa, Wisconsin. He was born 1895 to George Dampier and Ida (Joslin) Dampier. Thomas had a brother named Henry. All of Nekoosa, Wisconsin.

Don't know if there is a link or not.

Surnames: Dampier
Do you know if Henry's wife's name was Emma?
My grandfather is a son of Henry. Along with his brothers and sisters named, RUTH, CARRIE, HARRIET, LOREANE, THOMAS, CHARLES, FRANKLIN (sam), JAMES (bob or robert).
My grandfather was born in Nekoosa and died in 1988 in Plainfield Wis. That is where I grew up.
I believe that we are decendents of George Dampier. My grandmother is still alive in Planinfield Wi. she is 85 and named Margaret.
