Surnames: Faron, Collonan, Callahan
My grandfather was Peter Faron. He was born in Norwich Connecticut March 2, 1881 (according to his death certificate). I'm looking for information about his parents -- father also named Peter Faron, mother was Margaret Collonan (or possibly Callahan).

Anyone searching this line?

hello Ann. I received a message that you had posted a message to the genforum site re Faron. I am not able to get genforum to open. Could you repost through Rootsweb. My Faron family is from Armagh, from Tandragee according to my aunt.

Jane,

On the other posting you had mentioned that your Farons were from Armagh (though no townland mentioned)and had gone to Canada. My Farons left Killevy, Co Armagh about 1840 for England, then traveled to Massachusetts in 1852-1853.
Some of the common names in the family are Michael, Thomas, and Francis. I wasn't sure there was a connection.

Ann

Hello Ann, My Faron family had come from Armagh from what I can gather. My aunt told me that her mom talked about coming from Tandragee but she isn't totally sure. Francis and Ellen Faron had children with names of Ann, Patrick, Elizabeth, James, possibly Bernard, and Francis. There could be more. Ellen Faron is buried in Colgon Ontario Canada next to her son, James. It states on her stone that she is the wife of Francis. She was born about 1806. I cannot find out where Francis is or if he even came to Canada. The name Francis shows up again through the family . Patrick named one of his sons francis. Patrick's oldest son, Joseph named one of his sons Francis too. I haven't found an entry into Canada for the Faron family. Maybe they came through the US.
I have found three ways of spelling Faron within our family. They are Faron, Farron, and Feron. Also I believe that my Faron family was Catholic.
You are the first person who has the same spelling as our Farons and also comes from the same Irish county. Hopefully there will be a tie. PS Francis Faron, son of Francis and Ellen Faron, homesteaded in Kansas in latter 1800s.

My Faron ancestors settled in Millbury, Massachusetts, just south of Worcester, and many of them are buried in St. Bridget's cemetery there. (Therefore, Catholic.) Many worked in mills in southern New England up to 1950.

There are many Faron descendents from Michael & Rosa, the parents who brought their seven children to America. I've connected with a couple of contemporary cousins (sharing the same gggrandfather).

Re the spelling of the name -- US records have it all over the place; I've seen the three mention plus a half dozen more. My research into Armagh has the spelling as Fearon.

If you would like to share more specifics, please contact me at aeccles@earthlink.net.

I think, if we have a connection, it will be a couple of generations back in Ireland.

Ann
