I know that my great grandfather August Martin Feldt (who was born in Kokotzko, Westpruessen, Pruessen, 3 Jun 1843) came to the United States in 1882, and was here before October 27, as that was when my grandfather Albert William Feld was born. He arrived in the United States with his wife and three daughters. His wife and three daughters all died in December of 1885 from food poisoning. I have found the newspaper article about their deaths, but they were only listed as Mrs. August Feldt, and daughters of August Feldt. August remarried, (don't know this wife's name either). I found him in the Illinois 1900 Census, still living in Streator. By this time, he had dropped the "t" and was listed as August Feld. He was widowed at that time and was living with a son Emile, who was born in 1889. My grandfather Albert William Feld had run away from home before that time. He eventually settled in Idaho, where he married in 1917. He died there in 1937. August Martin's parents were Martin Feldt and Henriette Bauermeister. His family members, were Heinrich August born 1838, Christine Wilhelmine born 1845, Maria born 1849, Herrmann Eduard born 1850, and Friedrich Wilhelm born 1859. Several other children died at birth, or at an early age. They were all born in Preussen. I don't know if any other family members came to the USA when August Martin Feldt came. I have lost track of August Feld since the information in the 1900 census. If anyone reading this message has any information, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. Sincerely Myrna Feld Duffin

Since posting the last message of May 16, 2000, I have found more information concerning my gggrandfather's family. I have learned that his wife was Auguste Koehler, and that his daughters names were Mathilde Alwine & Hulda Marie, however, I am still searching for the youngest child's name. She was 6 yrs old, when she died in 1885. Any other information is appreciated. Thanks!!!

Surnames: Feld, Castile, Sweet, Hubble, Kerberick, Rosenblath, Lang/Long, Green, Abert, etc.
I have an elizabeth feld who was married to Frederick Abert from Berlin, Ge. She was supposedly from Germany. They settled in Marine illinoise. One of their children Adelaide Abert b. 1894 married Allen Castile b. 1897. She later remarried Mr. Guthrey and became known as Grandma Guthrey. Let me know if you think their may be a connection! I have some FELDT's in my ancestor list.

My oldest FELDT is Martin Feldt, too. But his wife was
"Heviga Japhet"; it is very difficult to read on the certification.
They married in Czarze (german. Scharnese) which is ca.
5Km south of Kokotzko. They got a child Johann Friedrich Feldt
the 30 January 1836 in Borki (german Borken) also in the near of
Kokotzko.

That birth was two years before your Heinrich August birth.
The name "Heviga Japhet" is jewish name I think.

Is my Martin Feldt the same as your Martin Feldt?
Did his wife change her name because the nazis shouldn' t find her?
Or did he married again?

It's difficult to believe that there was two Martin Feldts at the same
time at the same location.

Have you maybe some more information since then?

With best regards,
