I am also looking for relatives who are Freitas. I am the granddaughter of Charles Alfred Freitas. My grandparents, according to my portuguese side say my grandparents were married, but my hawaiian side denies any type marriage took place. In any event, my grandparents separated when my mother was young, and she never really had any contact with her father-side of family. I know my great-grandfather was the first bandmaster of the Royal Hawaiian Band, and my grandfather and uncles also were in the Band. I believe my grandmother was Dolinda Da Silva. I really would like to communicate with any family members, and would be excited to see family photographs of my Freitas family. My maiden name is Freitas and My father was
Gabriel Brazil Freitas SR and his father
Manuel Freitas from the Azores. I have not
done much in the way of research on the
Freitases as I am just about to self publish
my mother's side of the family, Lopes/Bogdanoff.
I am interested in others researching the
Freitas line. Manuel Freitas arrived in Hawaii
around 1905 as a child was born to his wife
in Hawaii in that year, Abel Brazil Freitas.
There was Herman, Anthony, Abel, Gabriel,
Margie, and Manuel Freitas, the first two having
been born in the Azores (I think).If this sounds
familiar, then contact me or post a message on

My great grandparents are also from the Azores. Manuel Perreria Freitas I, was a champion violinist and stone builder. One of his old Portugese ovens is still in Kokomo, Maui. My grandfather MPF II built the original bridge at Iao Needle and was married to Virginia Mary Madeiras from San Miguel.

My brother is the one who was doing the research on the Portugese side so I haven't spent any time with that side so don't know all the names etc.

I have only recently started doing research on our Hawaiian side. My mother is Henrietta Kaiaokamalie. Her gg grandparents are Edmond Saffery and his first wife Kapuna. I've been to the Family Histor Center and there's lots of info on his marriage to his 2nd wife because that's where Parker ranch side comes in. I still need to write the contributers to see if they can help.

If you know of any shor cuts to doing Hawaiian geneology I really appreciate it.

Hi, i'm from Oahu, i'm Herman Freitas Jr. My grand father was clarence. Not only that my mom is lopes. My g/f was john lopez but it was due to an imigration spelling error of done to one of his ancestors. herman

I am a mom searching for my son's birth grandfather. His dad doesn't know much due to the fact he was raised by another man. What I do know is that my son's grandfather's name was Stanley Furtado, he was from Hawaii, he was in the military (prob. Navy), he married a woman named Alice, he had a sister named Marian, and he was of Portugese descent. According to his ex-wife, Alice, he was full blood Portugese.
Any help tracing my son's paternal line would be much appreciated, he is 19 and really needs this information in order to be the man he wants to be. Thank you, A concerned mama, Melinda

Lou Ann: It was great to hear from you. My Auntie Mae Gomes who lives in Kailua has done extensive research of our Hawaiian geneology. As I understand it, there is a meeting once a week at a local restaurant to discuss the Hawaiian geneology. It is through my aunt that we learned we have many tutus and tutu-kanes. As for my portuguese side, I am still trying to get as much information on my maternal grandfather's side. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Leilani

Herman: My uncle's name was Clarence. He was married to Kapeka and had 3 sons (Clarence, Jr., Christopher and John) and a daughter (I do not know her name, she was born after we left Hawaii). My Uncle Clarence died a couple of years ago. Leilani
