I was just checking this message board and saw your posting. Was it in response to my post about my Gardepes?

I wondered if the Gardepes in Delaware County were related to the New Jersey Gardepes and how they are related. I also wonder how the New Jersey Gardepes are related to my grandfather, Sidney Joseph Gardepe. Sidney's father Herman S. Gardepe was born in Newark. Herman, father of Herman S., was a veteran of the Civil War and married to Sarah E. Gregg

I am currently working on our family tree and found your posting. My uncle was the late Joseph E Gardepe from Glenwood, NJ. I believe we are cousins. Please contact me, maybe we can combine efforts if you are also working on our family tree. Hope to hear from you.

Hi-I think I may be related to you through my father's mother's family. Nelson and Lucy Gardepe had a son, Herman, who had a daughter, Florence, who had a daugher, Anne, who was my grandmother. I have searched and searched and would love to know the answer to this question-- what is the ethnic origin of the name Gardepe? We have been speculating that it is French Canadian, since it seems a number of people with that surname came to the US from Quebec.

So this would make you my third cousin! Herman had a son, Herman Sidney, who had a son, Sidney Joseph, who was my grandfather. The Gardepes were French Canadian. They may have been from St. John's, New Brunswick according to my grandfather. Would your grandmother be Anne Gertrude O'Connor, born Nov. 7, 1887? I don't have any other information on her at all and would love to add anything you are willing to send me. I am slowly getting information into a program and will be glad to send you info that I have as well. My email address is kathleenabel@hotmail.com

I just started researching my family and some of your info matches mine. My great grandmother was Lucy M Gardepe married to Ernst Schaaf. Her parents are Herman Gardepe and Emma Genegg.

Thank you so much for answering my question regarding the Gardepe family. Yes, it looks like we are related! My father's mother was Anne Gertrude O'Connor, so we have Herman Gardepe as a common ancestor. I have started a very rudimentary family tree under the name Dean O'Brien which has some info that might be helpful to you. Let me know if you need any further details--

Yes, we have some common relatives. It seems Gardepe is actually a very uncommon name in the U.S. so I have a feeling all of the people on this thread are related! Let me know if I can share any info with you.
