my father Miljenko Jerkovic migrated to New Zealand from Rogotin, Neretva, Dalmatia, Croatia in 1966. He had an uncle Ante Jerkovic (pok Stipana) who migrated to the US (initially believed to lived in Washington state) in 1914. I would like to make contact with any of his decendants.

A small cemetery in Wilkeson, Pierce Co., WA has the following gravestone.

Ovde Pociva
Nikola JERKOVICH
Rogen Godine 1893
N A 1 November
U Krvav(cu??) Dalmacia
Austria
Umra. 2. August
Godine 1918
Spomenik Postavila
Braca Matf. I Baldo

It also has a carving of a sprig of ivy and seems to be missing a cross on top. The town's Byzantine Catholic Church probably owns the graveyard.

This man is not mentioned in the 1910 census for the town. I can check more recent census records and possibly Polk's guides to see if family is in the immediate area.

Hi, , my fathers names is Nikola Jerkovic, My grandfathers name is Nikola Jerkovic, who married a woman by the names of Eva rauzan. They were croation and lived in Mikanovci near Vinkovci in Croatia in the panonian plains area. I have been told that they were likely from the coastal area, Dalmatia. I think my greatgrandfathers name may have also been Nikola, but not quite sure yet. There are Jerkovics that also live in Bosnia. I don't know if this helps you at all, as Jerkovic is quite a common name. I'm from Melbourne and happy to respond to your message.

When I return from vacation, I will send photographs from the cemetery and probably some census records. If they look like your family members, I'll see if they still live in the area.

Hi Robert,

I believe I have found some info on Ante Jerkovic (pok. Stipana)
He was 17 years of age when he left Rogotin (nice little town).. He sailed to Aberdeen Washington State with a few of the locals in Neretva and they were Ivan Puljan (my great grandads brother), Iva Strbic, Ivan Nikolac, Jure Nikolac, Nicola Nikolac and Petar Nikola, they sailed on the ship "Pannonia" that docked in Ellis Island New York on the 15th April 1913... where they all went thru Immigration. (according to the ship manifest records - some of them went to Argentina April 25th. Looks like Ante stayed at cousins place in Aberdeen. Go to www.ellisisland.org, type in his surname and all the details will appear.... email me on jkaramat@bigpong.net.au and I gave give you further assistance if required.. I have this great book my dad got me from Cro last year called Depolulation of Plina, written by my dad
s uncle Ante Erak.. talk soon.....

I am looking for relatives of Anthony Yerkovich, who lived in Lead, SD. He was from Rogotin, Yugoslavia. He arrived (we believe) in 1913. Born in 1896 (Give or take a year). He married Mary Setka, U.S. in Washington and together had one daughter, Teresa Marie. We are looking for any ancestors on the Yerkovich (paternal) side.

His letters that were written to him came from several siblings. Dragi Moj Brate! They were all titled. He had one brother that had the word Soldier in front of it. We believe only one sister, Kata.

Any relatives paternal, we need them.

Thanks! ....
