Lucid, Lucit, Lucett of County Kerry, Ireland and California

Surnames: Lucid, Lucett, Lucit, Harmon
My name is Teresa and I am searching for information about my great grandfather's family. His name was Maurice Harmon. His mother's last name in the California Death Index is listed as Lucid. He had several sister's and they have different spellings of their mother's last name on the same index, so I'm not sure of the spelling. He was born in the early 1860's in County Kerry and came to the US in 1882 and is listed as naturalized in Shasta County, CA in 1887. He has a brother named Michael, and sisters named Mary, Nellie, and Annie and possibly either Josephine or Johanna. There may be more siblings. I am trying to find out who their parents were, where they were from and any other information. I am sure they are more than just a name on a piece of paper. In honor of St. Patrick's Day, and at the request of my daughter (she is sixteen and proud of her Irish heritage), I promised to find out all that I could about our Irish side of the family tree, but I hit a wall on this part. Thanks so much for any information.
Sincerely,
Teresa Muir

I am a Lucid decendent. My family goes back to the Ballyheigue area of County Kerry. I've done quite a bit of research on the family. If you're still interested reply and I'll look up what I have on your branch of the family.

My name is Don Johnson and I am related to the Lucid Family of Ballyheighe, Kerry' on my mothers side of the family. My great great great grandfather was John Lucit of Kerry who had five children-Michael,David,Edward,Johanna, and Deborah. Deborah married Michael Harmon on 24 Feb 1857 in the Causeway Parish of Kerry. I am sure they would be your grandfathers parents. There were many siblings of Maurice Harmon. The best place to find information would be the" Church Records of County Kerry", found on the internet. My great grandfather was David Lucit, who moved his family to county Clare in the late 1800s. Several of the Lucits immigrated to San Francisco, including my grandmother Mary Anne Lucid in 1898. Let me know if can help any further.

Hi Don

I think we might be related. My Grandmother Nora (1897-1977) had a sister Mary Anne (Molly) Lucid who immigrated to America as did George, John, Michael and Matilda. My Great Grandfather was David Lucid and Great Grandmother was Matilda. They lived in Ennis, Co. Clare and this is where I am from. (See attached files). I would love to hear from you.

Hi Don,

Brilliant. I would be delighted if you could email me the Lucid Family Tree in the U.S. Who did you meet when you were visiting Ennis? Did you visit the Cemetery where our Great Grandfather was buried. Do you have an email address and I can jot all about my Grannys info on the email.

Carmel- Just checking, that you did receive the family tree message that I forwarded. My email is drjcement@earthlink.net. We did not visit the Drumcliffe Cemetery in Ennis, but I have seen the photo of the memorial online. There is also a memorial in a Ballyheighe cemetery that states" from
Edmond, John, David, and Michael Lucid for their posterity". All are brothers, John, being the father of David, our great grandfather.

Thank you so much for responding to my post. It does seem that we are cousins. I would love to have any information on the Lucid/Lucit side of the family. It sounds like there were more Lucids in California than I was aware of. Maurice Harmon lived in both the Dunsmuir area, (working on the railroad) and in San Francisco. I would be very curious to know how close he lived to his siblings and cousins and if anyone else worked on the railroads as well. If you have any other information that you'd like to share, that would be wonderful. If email is easier, my address is
kmuir@lanset.com
Thanks for all your help.

Thank you for your post Teresa. I will email you with furthur information about the Lucid connection in San Francisco. Maurice had several cousins in California, including two at Southern Pacific Railroad- John Lucid, son of Michael Lucid and Elllen Prindiville of Castleisland, Kerry, and Michael Lucid, son of my great grandfather David Lucid and Matilda Wilson of Ennis, Clare County, Ireland.
More to come.
