I'm looking for information on my great grandfather. Thomas Fracis Meskill. born 12 August 1875 in Jersey City, NJ. He had at least one sister. Married Laura Fletcher of NJ in 1896. Only two of his children lived to adulthood, Florence and Grace. Thomas was catholic but was diowned by his family because he got married. They hoped he would become a priest. His father also A Thomas Meskill was born in Ireland.

Hi! DAvid Do you know when your great-grandfather died. Mine died July 1945. At the time he was living in NYC, either Brooklyn or the Bronx. I haven't looked at the board for a while. It would be cool if we ware related. I don't know much about him. He ran out on my great grandmother, Laura Fletcher Meskill when my grandmother was 12 (Florence Elizabeth Meskill VanEmburgh). He left Laura for another woman. This would have been around 1917. So not much was ever said. How are you related?

Barb, I'm David's cousin, also from Philly. I know there was a Connecticut Governor named Thomas Meskill in the mid to late part of the 1900s. If you researched information on him it could lead to your great-grandfather. Maybe the Governor was a son from a second marriage of your great-grandfather.

I THINK WE ARE COUSINS .

Hi! Back when the Gov. Meskill was in office, my one cousin wrote him. We were not sure if there was a relation. He said there were three Thomas Meskills around the same time. All I've found out so far is that My great grandfather Thomas Francis Meskill was the oldest of 4 children. He was born in 1875 in Jersey City. His parents were both from Ireland. Dad was Thomas F. Meskill and mother was Ellan Whealen. She came over in 1870. Not sure of Tom, Sr. Tom Sr. died between 1893 and 1900. Ellan and three children were in Jersey City for the 1900 census. One son's name was William. I can't read the other children's name. by that point my great grandfather had married Laura Fletcher, also of Jersey City. (1896)

There was not much contact with the Meskill family. Story is that they disowned them. Story also goes that Thomas, Jr. was supposed to have been the priest (oldest son) but getting married....

That's about all I know.
