I am seeking information on the family of John Moneypenny of VA/WV - specifically in the Lewis Co area. John had several children - Thomas, Edward, Margaret and others. I am seeking information on any of the descendants of John and specifically on the step-children of Edward Moneypenny. His wife - Elizabeth Brake - had two sons prior to marrying Edward - they were Jesse and William H. Brown. If anyone has any information that they can share on the descendants of the Moneypenny's, I would certainly appreciate it.

I cannot tell you anything new about Edward,
but I was intrigued to find that Elizabeth Brake
had two sons. You see, I am a great-great-
great granddaughter of Margaret Moneypenny
and William Brown. They were married in 1855.
I have been unable to find out who William's
father was but I know that his mother was
Elizabeth Brake and that he had a brother
named Jessie. My Margaret was the daughter
of John Moneypenny and Jane Cane. Do you
know any more about Elizabeth's 1st marriage?
This has long been a dead end. I can give
you more details regarding the famillies of
William-Margaret and Jessie also.

My understanding from information written by David Armstrong for the Allegheny Regional Family History Assoc is that Elizabeth Brake and John K. Brown had two children out of wedlock - Jesse and William H. Brown. I was specifically trying to find out if their youngest son - Lee Brown - could have been related to me. I am seeking a Lee E. Brown and he was the right age at the time of the 1880 Census - and living in the home of his uncle Thomas Wallace Moneypenny. Do you by chance have information on Lee Brown in your pursuits?

I know that Lee's given name was Jesse Lee Brown. He also died about the same time as one of his brothers, Newton I believe. My aunt has an obituary somewhere...

As I said I am a direct descendent of William. I read in one
source that he came over as an indentured servant but
cannot verify this. The Weston Moneypennys & the
Clarksburg Moneypennys certainly look different!
Earl's oldest living child is Thelma Moneypenny Sutton, wife
of Bill Sutton-Clarksburg.
