Descended from Oetzels in Laudenbach. Grandmother came to US in 1904. Her father was Jost Peter Oetzel, b. 1829, her grandfather was Conrad Oetzel, b. 1800, all born in Laudenbach. Grandmother often spoke of Oetzels who moved to Texas 1880-1890, but never knew what happened to them. Are we tracing the same line? If yes, please e-mail

My ggrandfather's name was John A. Oetzel married Ella DeFord, lived in Philadelphia, Pa, then Camden, New Jersey. I found a picture of a grave site from Germany that says it would be my gggrandfather Oetzel. The back of the picture says ARTISTISCHES ATELIER-PHOTOGRAPHIE-G.JAGEMANN-Grolsherzogl.Sachs.Hofphotograph-EISENACH-GOLDSCHMIEDENSTRAFSE11. If you could let me know of town or cemetary in Germany, or if we are chasing same roots. Tried to send email to Elke Gazvoda in Germany kept getting retured. Thank You

Sharon, I'm still waiting for my father to send more details of exactly who emigrated to the USA. My father's side of the family originated in Obersuhl (now Wildeck-Obersuhl). Eisenach is a larger town, just a few miles from there. We may be looking for the same ancestor! My e-mail address is, I'm not in Germany - I'm in Colorado.

Did you have any luck in tracking down that grave site photo of your grandfather? My grandfather (George Jagemann) left Germany in 1883 at the age of 19. We know almost nothing of his family, since he did not contact them once he came to the US. I'd be most interested in a city or whatever you were able to track down.

When I saw the town Eisenach, I decided to put a message on the board and see if you have heard of Wolferbutt and Volkershausen. These are two of the towns listed in my family history. My ancestor John Oetzel who was born around 1819, married Catharine Elizabeth Stutz at the parish church in Volkershausen on Feb. 28, 1841. It says that in Germany, he was listed as Johannes Oezel. They came to the U.S. in 1845 with Valentine Carl Stutz and his family. John's father is listed as Mattheus. John was supposedly the only son that Mattheus had, but he had a daughter, Elizabeth, who stayed in Germany. I know nothing about Mattheus: wife, any other children, brothers and sisters, or his parents. These are the things that I would like to find out. By the map of Germany that I have in a book done by one of my Stutz relatives, it looks as though Eisenach is not too far from Volkershausen. Do you know of anyone living in the area that may be able to look up old records about the family of Mattheus??
Would appreciate any help, or hearing from anyone who may have a connection to this branch of the family.
Thanks! Janet at

Hi...I am a Jagemann also. I have been trying to find my grandfathers roots. Problem is he was born here in U.S. in 1868. His name is Henry Joseph Jagemann, born in NYC. He died in Manhattan in 1925. I know nothing about the Jagemann side of our family. There is no one left and those that are have never married or have no children as yet. Our branch is dying out. There are many Jagemann's in Canada and I think Wisconsin. Don't know if any relationship there.

I am hoping you are still using the same email address. I am related to Valentine Stütz from Wolferbütt/Volkershausen. Do you have any information on this family?
Valentine was born 31 October 1794, his wife Catharina Elizabeth Luckert born 19 June 1795.
Hoping to hear from you.
