Judy,
I can't believe someone finally responded to my message. As you might have noticed it has been quite a while since I posted it. Jacob and Magdalena Diehl Swonke were my maternal great grandparents. Jacob died when I was very young probably about 1962. I did not know him and have very vague memories of him. Magdalena died when I was about 11, around 1971. I remember her well because we spent alot of time with her in her later years as she live in a trailer next to my grandmothers house(Clara Swonke Wagner) in Baytown. I have little information on either of them and am quite interested in finding info on siblings and parents if possible. What side of the family are you on and how do you fit in. Am anxious to hear from you again. I am going to Plantersville the first of November and am hoping to find some info on them.
Thanks for your reply,
Kenneth

I'm a Swonke by marriage. My husband is Charles Joseph. He is the son of Alfert and Pearl. Alfert is the son of Antone and Marie. Antone is the son of Andrew and Frances. Andrew and Frances and their six children which Jacob was one are the one's who came to America from Germany. So Jacob (who the family called Jake) is Antone's brother. Andrew and Frances had 13 children. I have a story told by Alphonse Swonke (who is August's son) August is a brother to Jacob and Antone, but anyway it tell the story of how the family came to America and eventually settled in Plantersville. I picked up your message this morning (Monday 10-17-00)and I have the story on MS Word @ home. Will get back to you and will E-mail the story to you. I would like to know what you can tell me about Jacob (his children). I can give you most of Antone's. Talk with you later.

Judy,
This is really neat. I just got off the phone with my mother telling her about your email. She could not believe how familiar the names that you gave sounded. She is going to give me a complete list of Jacob and Magdalena' children that I will give you. There were 10 of them. She also said that supposedly when they landed in Galveston some of the family went up north like to Kentucky. Are you from Plantersville?
Will talk again soon.
Thanks,
Kenneth

Kenneth, please give me your E-mail address so I can E-mail you the story Alphonse tells. Also I was able to find on the internet St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery and I printed it out. Both your Great Grandfather and Grandmother are on the list. I will get what history I have and will mail it to you. Antone and Marie had 9 children so we're a large family too. Don't forget and send me your E-mail so I can send you Alphonse's story. He did not mention any other the Andrew, Frances and the 6 children.
This what makes genealogy such fun.

Thanks,

Judy

I have a copy of the Swonke Heritage by
Alphonse Swonke that you mentioned. My
maternal grandfather is Pete Swonke, brother
of August, Antone, etc. The children of
Andrew and Frances Swonke. By the way, Pete's wife, my granny, was also named Frances, and my middle name is Frances.
Pete and Frances had 10 children, my mother
being the youngest.

I have the family tree of the Swonkes dating back to the 1500's. If you want a copy, just let me know. It is very large due to the number of family members, so I'll have to send it in a mailing tube.
