My gggrandfather was August Totzke married to Fredericka Claver in Germany. their daughter was Florentine who married Frederick Leitz.Does anyone know of these people, where they came from in Germany or any of their relatives? the years would have been approx early to mid 1800's.

John: Thanks for your reply.Your August would have had to be a brother of my FLorentina. ( Not beyond the realm of possibility).I have so little information. I'll try searching the parents, etc. I am certain that there were relatives in Ohio and in Michigan. This is like looking for the needle in the haystack!! My ancestors were in Rochester, NY and became citizens in Rochester. I found the paperwork. However, the details were "born in Germany" and no other info....I found what little I have in copies of death certificates. So, if you happen across anything that might clarify who these folks were and where they came from, please let me know.
Thank you.

Hi Arlene:
Thank you for your answer. Could be! You and John and Linda certainly have given me some information to look into. Your August may have been a brother to my Florentina. Florentina settled in Rochester, NY with her husband, Frederick Leitz. I know they had relatives in Michigan and Ohio, because I remember my grandmother talking about going out to visit them when she was a young girl.
Thanks again for your information.

How did you go about finding citizenship papers? My family (I heard) filed for citizenship at Pittsburg, PA which is not too far from Rochester, NY.

Hi John:
We went to the main courthouse in Rochester. What led us there was some microfilm at LDS, census records, etc. If I remember correctly, we needed the ward and specific location where individuals were living.
I can't help but wonder if there is relationship. There are not very many people with this name. In fact, I never knew my ggrandmother's maiden name until I saw it on her death certificate! Apparently, her mother's name was Frederica Claver. Does that mean anything?

You might find something via LDS. I've used them in various places, but the one with the greatest number of references and with the best trained volunteers, is in Rochester. They were very helpful. I doubt I would have found out what I found had it not been for them.
