We are trying to learn more about the family of Tousant Vigeant. In 1880 we found him living in Marlborough, Middlesex, Mass. His wife was listed as Vine. Their 8 children were, Rosa, Amanda, Celanie, Joseph, Isadore, Emma, Eli, and Josephine. Joseph went on to become a DR. and moved to Dutchess Co., NY where he married Clara Shook and had at least two children; Clarence Hubert, and Helen Elizabeth. Can any one tell us more about this family. We are at a dead end! Thank you all for your time.

If you could find the marriage of Tousant and his wife, you would then know his parents. I suspect his first name to have been Toussaint (French), anglocized to Tousant. Vigeant likely came from Quebec, and prior to that from France. I would search in Quebec if I were you. Marielle, a Vigeant descendant from quebec.

My Vigeant ancestors were originally from St. Matthias parish in Rouville, Marieville, Quebec. They then moved to Lowell, MA. I would be happy to do some checking in the French Genealogy library for you when it reopens after the holidays. Just email me off the board with as much info has you have and I will let you know if I find anything.
There was only one Vigeant who came from France to Canada. He was a soldier. I'm sure we are relatives.

My grand mother was Maria Vigeant, either Vigeant dit Larose, or dit Taupier, I don't remember which. Maria married my grand father Edouard Bourgeois, in 1898, in St. Mathias de Rouville, sur le Richelieu. Vigeant were from St. Mathias, St. Hilaire, areas, parishes on the Richelieu river, on the Chemin des Patriotes road. I have my grand father's line to 1642. Can you help with the Vigeant? Thank you. We are probably cousins. Marielle A. Bourgeois

Hi. Your grandfather Maria married Edouard Bourgeois on Feb 12, 1898 in St. matthias.

Maria's parents were Alfred Vigeant Taupier and Agathe Vigeant(yes).

This info is in the parish register. I did not find any record of Alfred and Agathe in St. Matthias. I will check the Druin files in Jan when my genealogy library reopens after the holidays. It is also possible that they were married in the US and then moved back to Canada. My ancestor moved to Lowell in 1879, but they still kept close ties to home in Canada.

Thanks. That particular line stayed in Quebec, on the Richelieu River for many generations. Don't spend time in the US on these folks, is my advice. Heureux Noel. Merry Christmas. Marielle A. Bourgeois

I have some Druin index photocopies and I found a marriage of an Alfred Wilfred Vigeant to an Agathe Monast. Don't know if they would be the same people we were referring to or not.

They had a son named Arsene who married Maria Menard feb 25 1895 in St. Basile le Grand. Does the name Arsene sound familiar to you? Maybe your uncle? When I go back to the library I could look at the actual record to see who were witnesses at Arsene's wedding or look at the St. Basile repetoire.

Alfred Vigeant and Agathe Monast sounds right, I think Agathe Vigeant was incorrect, after marriage she became Agathe Vigeant, but was a Monast prior to mariage. I do recall seeing Monast and Vigeant stones at the entrance of the St. Mathias cimetery, right side of the church. What was the date and place of that Vigeant -Monast mariage? Who were Alfred's parents? Thanks. Marielle

Agathe Monast was married to Wilfred-Alfred Vigeant on 23 Oct 1849 at St. Matthias. Wilfred-Alfred Vigeant's parents were Jean-Baptiste Vigeant and Judith Massé.
Agathe Monast`s parents are Pierre Monast and Agathe Daigneau LaPrise.

Jean-Baptiste Vigeant and Judith Massé married on 29 Jan 1816 at St. matthias.
Jean Baptiste`s parents were Francois Vigeant and Marie-Louise Beique Lafleur. Judith Massé parents were Pierre Massé and Marguerite Choiniere.

Francois Vigeant is my gr-gr-Grandfather also. So, I guess that makes us cousins of some sort. How do you connect here?

Thank you very much cousin. Francois Bourgeois m. Marie Louise Beique Lafleur was 6 generation prior to me, the same as for you. So we are cousins to the 6th-6th degree, isn't that so? Was Francois the soldier who first arrived in Quebec? Did he marry in Quebec? When and where? Where was he from in France? I recognize most of the names you presented me with so far, I also recall that the origin in France might have been LaRochelle. Some of them were protestants, many in the legal field. Do you agree with those rememberances? Marielle
