KAHNT, Katherine ( Wiedl ), 96, of Swain Avenue, Meriden, wife of the late Ernest A. Kahnt, died Friday, March 3, 2000, at Westfield Care and Rehab. Center after a brief illness. The funeral will be held on Monday, March 6, at 9:30 a.m.

from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., and at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Church. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery in the spring. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday prior to Mass from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to St. Mary School, 97 Grove St., Meriden, CT 06451.

MERIDEN -- Katherine (Wiedl) Kahnt, 96, of Swain Avenue, wife of the late Ernest A. Kahnt, died Friday, March 3, 2000, at Westfield Care and Rehab. Center after a brief illness.

Born in Germany, on March 4, 1903, she was the daughter of the late Dominic and Theresa Wiedl and had resided in Meriden for the past 64 years. Mrs. Kahnt was a parishioner of St. Mary Church and a member of the St. Elizabeth Society of the parish.

She is survived by one daughter and two sons-in-law, Ernestine and Chester Szawerda and John E. Tylec, all of Meriden; five grandchildren, John Grzybek of St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. Laurine Sheren of Meriden, George Tylec of Meriden, Mrs.

Cathryn Vogel of Southington and James Tylec of Sarasota, Fla.; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Marie Fenzl of Germany; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers; one sister; and a daughter, Marilyn Tylec of Meriden.

The funeral will be held on Monday, March 6, at 9:30 a.m. from the John J.

Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St. and at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Church.

SOUTHINGTON - Ernestine Szawerda, 76, formerly of Meriden, wife of the late Chester Szawerda, died Thursday, May 19, 2011, at The Hospital of Central Connecticut Bradley Campus.


Born in Bridgeport on Feb. 25, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Katherine Wiedl Kahnt and had resided in Meriden and Southington all her life. She was a graduate of Meriden High School and was a parishioner of St. Mary Church.


She is survived by a daughter Cathryn Vogel, of Southington; a son, John Grzybek and his wife, Mary Kay, of St. Paul, Minn.; three grandchildren, Kurt Vogel, of Southington, Petty Ofc. Peter Grzybek (U.S. Navy), of Norfolk, Va. and Sgt. Nathan Grzybek (U.S. Army) presently serving in Iraq; two great-grandchildren, Alexis and Matthew Grzybek, of St. Paul, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son-in-law, Niles Vogel; and a sister, Marilyn Tylec.


The funeral will be held on Saturday, May 21, at 9:15 a.m., from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, and at 10 a.m., at St. Mary Church for a Mass of Christian burial. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday (TODAY), from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to St. Mary Church, 5 Sherman Place, Meriden, CT 06451, or Connecticut Community Care, 43 Enterprise Drive, Bristol, CT 06010. www.jferryfh.com
