I just thought I would let researchers know of the large Zambon population in the village of Dardago, Friuli, Northern Italy, as that is where some of my Zambon family members are - and there are lots and lots of Zambons in the area. If any of you read italian, there is a site for L'Artugna, the local magazine. If you get a paper copy of it, you will see the announcements of births, baptisms and deaths (current ones) contain about 20% Zambon names. Legend has it that the name was derived from King Jean le Bon, which in the local dialect became Zambon. If anyone has had a chance to check this out, please let us know.

Anna,
My grandmother, Lucia Zambon, was from a small town in the province of Veronca, village of Ronca. Where is that in relation to where your ancesters are from?

I am researching Giulia De Michiel Zambon. She married Tony Zambon and came to join him in the U.S. with her family in 1920. She had three sons (Osvaldo, Giuseppe, & Mario). Did the Mario you know of come to the U.S. and return to Italy? The Mario I have record of would have been born in 1910 in Venice.

Thanks for the help!

The Mario I know lives in Dardago and was a waiter for many years. I communicate now and then with his son Valintino. I do not know where he was originally from and don't believe he was in the states.

I've learned that my great-grandfather's sister, Giulia (Julia) DeMichiel married Antonio Zambon. She, too, was from Cavasso Nuovo. He came to the U.S. in 1903 and she came (with four of their children) in 1920. Their daughter, Louise Zambon, married a Buranoswki and visited with my cousin in Florida in 1960. She would have been 64 years old then.

Three of Julia and Tony's children were born in Cavasso Nuovo, one was born in Germany, and their youngest was born in Pennsylvania. Their children were: Osvaldo, Giuseppe, Louise, Mario, and Ida.

I'm travelling to Cavasso Nuovo in September. I'll try to find the Zambon family when I'm there.

My father was born in Dardago, Italy on November 22 1926 and was called SANTE ZAMBON. He was the youngest son of Regina (PANIZUT) Zambon and Gregorio Zambon.

My father moved to Jersey (Channel Islands, UK) in 1951 and had a family there until he died in 1999.

I used to travel to Dardago for family holidays as a child and some 40 years later have just returned there with my wife to find the 'ancestral home.'

It was a moving experience and I agree with a previous poster that at least 50% of those living there have the name of ' Zambon.' I even met an old classmate of my father who remembered him well.

The village of Dardago is beautiful and quiet, being as it is in the foothills of 'Pien Carvallo.' The town of Aviano is a short drive away, and the military airbase there was a place I remember my father telling me about.

When he was young, (ww2) he was forced to work there first by the American and then German soldiers. His family was so poor that he used to steal waste rubber from blown airplane tyres and take it home for his mother to make shoes for the familiy.

When ther in Sept 2008, I was able to locate the headstones of my Grandmother and Grandfather.

My visit has prompted me to try and learn Italian (if not the local dialect, 'Dardagese' so that I can return to Dardago and find out more

Searching for siblings Daniela, Paolo and Paola Zambon who were children in Dardago in the early 70's. They would have been born in the 60's, and would probably be in their 40's now. Might you be able to help?
