I found ths photo amoung my mothers things when I emptied her house. It was in a frame but there is no name or anything else. At first glance it looks to me like Australian WWI. Can anyone confirm or correct that?

Thanks, Julia

Because of some help I got from another post we recently identified this photo as my grandmother's brother Richard Mchale. The military records someone directed me to proved that Richard arrived from Scotland before WWI and joined up and was shipped out from Australia to join his Scottish Unit. We previously thought he did not arrive until after the war.

I had always suspected this was Richard but his grandaughter kept saying he was in a Scottish unit in WWI. The military records also gave us the name of a first wife we did not know about.

I have had this photo for a few years trying to ID it. My Grandmother kept it in a small frame so I knew it must have been important to her but she had brothers that went to England, Australia and stayed in Scotland.

Thanks Everyone! message boards have lead to some great breakthru's for me.

some Australian units are classified as Highland or Scots regiments, depending on where The unit was raised, the slouch hat is a dead give away to being an Australian soldier
