What happened to the Fairfax fortune that was
supposedly left by Lady Fairfax the widow of
Sir William Fairfax of Belvoir, Fairfax Cnty
Virginia.?
She died in Feb 1812 in the City of Bath England and bequeathed the sum of fifty thousand pounds to her two grandsons, Fairfax
Washington and Whiting Washinton sons of Hannah Washington of Fairfield Frederick Co Va.
In the book of Walker Letters in University of Arkansas, many years after this in 1867 to
1870 there are letters, Whiting Washington Jr
in Ark. to Fairfax Washington Jr. in Il.
asking about trying to claim it since it was
never settled due to the war of 1812. these
letters are also representing William A. Washington a son of Fairfax and he is living
in Logan Co. Ky. (the prev. home of Fairfax
and Whiting)

I would also be interested in finding out about this information. Fairfax Washington and Whiting Washington were the sons of Warner Washington and Hannah Fairfax. Warner Washington was 1st cousin to Pres. George Washington. George's father Augustine and Warner's father John were brothers. Belvoir, or Belvoir Mansion was actually the Fairfax family home which rested in land grated to Lord Fairfax from King Charles. Belvoir Mansion ruins now stand in what is Fort Belvoir. Geo Washington's 1/2 brother Lawrence married another Fairfax - and so he must have had a vested interest in the outcome of this financial matter.

Do you think we could get help on this question from someone in England?
Of course this could have been all a mistake
but there are letters between Fairfax Jr and
Whiting Jr. regarding this fortune.

I would be interested in seeing copies of these letters. I have done research on the fairfax family as Washingtons, as well as Belvoir and the estates. I know what you are referring to as to Mrs. Fairfax's will.
