I am trying to find any information about my wife's gg grandfather. Lawrence Hourihan, b. about 1855, supposedly in Skibbereen, County Cork, Ireland, emigrated to US in 1872, married Mary Creedon, b. about 1866, emigrated to US in 1884. The 1900 census places them in Nipomo, San Luis Obispo, California. They had 2 children, Helen and Katie (murdered in 1906 at age 16). Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.

Some of my Hourihan(e) ancestors from Tooreen, Caheragh, County Cork, Ireland, emigrated to the US and lived in the San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara area. I have been able to track down three brothers of the four brothers - Lawrence (Laurence) Hourihan, b. about 1861, who married Mary Donovan. He was in Santa Barbara, Township 4 in the 1900 census, San Luis Obispo Huasna Precinct in the 1910 census, Branch Precinct in the 1920 census and Branch Precinct - Arroyo Grande Township in the 1930 census. His brother Michael, b. 1869/1870, married Margaret Hill. He was in Santa Barbara, Township 4 in the 1900 and 1910 census, Santa Barbara Santa Ynez Precinct in the 1920 and 1930 census. A third brother, Patrick Emmett Hourihan, married Lilly Ontiveros. The fourth brother, Thomas, (may have been in Alhambra, Contra Costa, in the 1900 census) apparently went to the San Diego area and I believe he returned to Ireland. Do you think there is any connection between your Lawrence Hourihan and this family?

Hi
I am also researching Hourihan's from Skibbereen. My ggrandmother was Catherine Hourihan. Her parents, I believe were Murtagh Hourihand and Mary Barry Hourihan. They had several daughters: Catherine, Mary, Margaret, Julia and two unknown. Catherine and Mary emigrated to Hartford, CT in the late 1880s. Catherine was born in 1862. Have you come across any of these names in your Skibbereen family?
Thanks and Good luck.

I have Hourihane cousins who emigrated from Skibbereen to Providence, RI in early 1900's. Hannah Hourihane married a John Healy in 1908. Mary E. Hourihane married Tom Heffernan in 1918. John Hourihane was killed in WW1, Oct. 1918 France. They are cousins to my O'Sullivans and O'Donovans who emigrated from Skibbereen to Providence between 1900-1911. Any possible connection?

Hi

I don't know of any RI connection. However, I do know that two of the sisters from my Hourihan's married Donovan or O'Donovan brothers. My gggrandmother, Catherine was married to a Sullivan. Story is he died before she emigrated to Hartford in the late 1880s where she married my gggrandfather James Williams.

I have another Catherine Hourihan who arrived in Pt Adelaide, South Australia on the 6 Jun 1882 aboard the CLYDE. There do not appear to be any other HOURIHAN'S aboard; she would have been 18 years old, as she was born in Caheragh, Skibberdeen 7 Feb 1864, daughter of Timothy Hourihan (born about 1838) and Elizabeth Attridge. There was one other known child - a son Timothy born 16 May 1868, but I do not know what became of him or if there were other siblings.
Does anyone have this branch in their tree? It seems we must all be related.

I think I may have a connection. Three of my great-grandmother's sisters emigrated to Australia and they lived in Sydney. One of them married a McDonald. Their father was Lawrence Hourihane and their mother was Catherine "Kitty" MacSweeney. Let me know if you think there is a connection.

1894 Elizabeth Hourihan had a daughter-Elizabeth Hourihan. Father not named.
Elizabeth Hourihan married my grandfather James William McDonald, 29 April 1908, St Monicas Catholic Church, Cairns, Queensland.
1915, Sydney NSW, she divorces James on the grounds of desertion. No Issue.
Elizabeth McDonald died Redfern, Sydney, NSW. 1921. father Lawrence Hourihan mother Catherine.
So looks like the same family
