Oscar Leo Warf b. July 3, 1910, fred Odell warf b. Sep 1, 1915, Brock Warf b. aft 1918 and Bross Warf b. aft 1918 were all placed in an orphanage sometime in the early 1920's. Oscar Leo left in 1926 after he turned 16 and Brock and Bross were taken from the orphanage in 1927 by their half brother Oliver James Wart and moved to california.

The parents of the 4 put in the orphanage were John Andrew Warf and 2nd wife Nora Banks. It is assumed that they died.
A daughter of Oscar Leo thinks the orphanage was in Dustin, OK.

CAn anyone help me find this orphanage or the 1920 census records for it??? Thanks so much........Don Warf

As far as I know, there was no orphanage in Dustin, OK, which is in Hughes County. The largest place in the county is Holdenville, but I know of no orphanage there.

Ancestry.com has a message board for Hughes County :

http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=an&p=l...

If you cannot find someone there to look up the 1920 census, try the general board for Oklahoma. To find a board, enter the name of the state or county or surname in the search window at the bottom of every board in Ancestry.com.

The 1999 edition of The National Directory of Children, Youth & Family Services lists what appears to be the Hughes County branch office of a state agency : Dept. of Human Services, 409 Kingsberry, Holdenville OK 74848; phone 405-379-7231.

Also listed is the Juvenile Services Unit of 22nd District Court, POB 32, Holdenville OK 74848; phone 405-379-6626.

If you have access to a large library, take a look at this directory :

UNITED STATES. Bureau of the Census. Children under Institutional Care, 1923.

In 1924 the Tipton Home was established in Tipton, OK. Many children were placed there when their parents could not provide for them or died. Possibly your people were there. The Tipton Home is still in the same location, same structure, although it is currently the business offices. They are very helpful and pleased to give any information that is available. My dad lived there for several years and it was one of the most positive experiences in his troubled life.
