I am currently in the process of gathering information concerning Tensas Parish during the years of 1850 through 1865, for an essay. The information I'm most interested in is of a personal nature. The military nature of Tensas Parish during this time has been well covered in the past. What I'm looking for is personal information on the citizens of Tensas.

If anyone has any family history they may be willing to relate, would be wonderful. I would love to hear from anyone having detailed information on the plantations that lined the banks of Lake St. Joseph and Lake Bruin.

Thank you for your time,

Josh Dowdy

Check Tulane University under Phillip Watson. You may find a tresaure trove of info there...in all likelihood they're (archivist) still going through the boxes.

This is all I know.....

Wow-- I wish I'd seen this post years ago. My family is from there-- historically-- and were slaves for some time then! Hope you found what you needed.

I am trying to check on Phil Watson. He was a classmate of my husband. If you could update me, would appreciate it.
