I came across A John and Richard Mendinhall in the book "Daniel Boone" By John Mack Faragher. They were on the initial trek to establish a settlement in Kentucky with Boone. On October 9 1773, Boone had sent them back with his son James and five other Men to bring back more supplies. That night they were attacked by Indians. Here is an abbreviated description of what happened to the group.

John and Richard Mendinhall were killed in the first fire.
Isaac Crabtree, A hired hand and experienced woodsman was Injured and escaped into the woods with another hired hand Drake, who was also injured.
Adam (Slave?) Escaped into the woods
Charles (Slave) was captured by the Indians and was killed later.
James Boone and Henry Russell were both tortured and killed

The Survivers were Isaac Crabtree and Adam.

The Mendinhall boys were described as Little more than boys on their first trip into the wilderness and also from North Carolina.

A newspaper article printed in December described what had occurred and that the emigrants were from the Yadkin.

Does anyone know who their parents are? I have absolutely no clue. I cant match them up with any of the families in North Carolina at that time.

To the best of my knowledge:

Richard (b. 1737 d. 1773) and John (b. 1739?) were the children of Mordacai Mendenhall and Charity Beeson.

Richard Mendenhall was my 5th greatgrandfather.

Mordacai
-Richard (m. Jane Thornbrugh 1758)
--Joseph (was almost 3 when Richard was killed)
---John
----John S
-----Louisa(aka Dolly) Mendenhall Cruzen (my GGM)
