Hello! I believe we may be related! My great grandmother was Hannah Knowles Fischer 1875-1960, whose father, family lore says, was the tollkeeper in West Albany on the Turnpike. I know of 2 sisters-Louise Knowles Emerick 1882-1975 and Mabel J. Knowles 1873-?. I also have a postcard from the early 1920's from a Florence Knowles to a Mrs S K Knowles of Albany, who she identifies as her Mom. There were also cousins I know of from my Dad in the early 1930's-one Arthur, who was named after Arthur Scott-married to Hazel Fischer (1897-1983) and Earl Knowles, suppposedly named after Earl Fischer (1900-1940)-both of whom were children of Hannah Knowles and Frederick Fischer. PLease let me know further about your line, as we probably connect back in the 1800's. Thanks and look forward to hearing from you, Greg James

Researching WILLIAM J. KNOWLES, bn. abt. 1832. Believed to have been bn. in Ireland. He was listed in Albany directory for 1890 and 1891 as follows: (William J. Knowles Woodlawn, Western Ave., Albany, N.Y. 1890 and again as toll gate keeper Western Ave., Albany, NY. 1889.)
I believe this might be my husband's Great Grandfather or his son. If anyone has knowledge of this family or can furnish me with the nearest town to begin my search I would be very appreciative. Also, any cemetery information or census info for that time period. Contact Phyllis at PJohn27974@aol.com
