I am having troubles tracing my family from the Sewter Line.

My Great Grandmother was Called Beatrice Sewter Born in 1889 and Died in 1963 in Norwich Norfolk.

She married George Plumbly Born in Cromer 1878 and died in Norwich in 1968.

If anyone can shed any more light on the Sewter Family it would be much appreciate.

Thanks Ellin Spain

Do you have a direct link to this family also?

I am somewhat confused, as Francis Born in ABT 1859 I assumed married someone called Sewter, Thats where my Great Grandmother comes into play, Beatrice Sewter 1889-1963
Beatrice Married George Plumbly in 1909

I notice from the 1911 Census Francis has herself as head of the House as Francis Plumbly, But she was not a Plumbly she should have been I would have imagined Sewter, Unless she remarried, but I have found no evidence of that..

I would really have liked to trace Francis Whoever she was lol, And the father of My great Grandmother Beatrice, And even the parents of Francis.

If you have anymore information it would be much appreciated

No, not one of mine -- think, for verification purposes, you would need, at least, a copy of her birth:

Name: SEWTER, Beatrice
Registration District: Norwich
County: Norfolk
Year of Registration: 1888
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
Mother's Maiden Name: Not available before 1911 Q3
Volume No: 4B
Page No: 158

normally, the marriage cert would be the 1st port of call as this should show each of their fathers + also their occupations which, helps to pinpoint them earlier - you would need this to confirm his as there are 2 very close matches..

certs are available, online, @ £9.25 each all inclusive of world wide postage

I ? the 1911 census also - I thought, at 1st, that this was mum in law (bearing in mind that relationships as stated, were much different from what we say today)however, the christian name & dob & pob matches the Francis earlier so, it could be that she married a Plumbly - very possible how your young lady met him

If you can get one or both of these, treat yourself to an early Xmas pressie!, give a shout & I'll have another poke around

I got the Marriage Certificate of Beatrice Sewter & George Plumbly.

I am still hitting a bit of a blank though.

It lists that George Plumbly Father was also called George Plumbly and he was a Boot Maker.

Beatrice Father was called George Sewter and he was a Paper Maker.

Both Fathers where Deceased at the time of marriage on the 10th April 1909 when the marriage took place.

The only other information that is on the certificate is that the marriage was witnessed by

Frederick Arthur Sewter which is Beatrice brother and A Ellen May Seamen, and I have no idea whom that is.

Would really appreciate any more info anyone can give :-)

Thanks very much for the info, It is very much appreciated. I will see where this takes me.

it's the George Sewter I am finding most frustrating though because all I have been able to find is the marriage between him and fanny. He does not seem to appear anywhere else in any records that I can find ;-(

Thanks again for all your help
