I paid a visit to Abercorn Cemetery and came upon the following which may be of use to someone.

1810 / Erected / by JAMES TROTTER / Farmer at Newton / in Memory of / three of his children who died / in infancy / the above / JAMES TROTTER who died / on the 15 of and was interred / here on the 21 of October / 1830 aged 80 years / MARION CUNNINGHAM his / spouse who died on the 21 / of September 1831 aged 71 years.

Diana,
Glad to see someone is recording, locally.
Potter /Anderson are my ancestors and the gravestone has obviously deteriorated in the last 30 years.
It should read:
"In memory of JOHN Potter, who died 1st October 1869, aged 45 years, and of four children who died in infancy, and Elizabeth Anderson, wife of the above died 1888."
The Potters are from Uphall and the Andersons from Kirkliston.
The very large headstone I have assumed was put up by the estate, as he was a forester and died of an accident on the Hopetoun Estate
There is a superb,fully recorded gravestone site for St Nicholas Church Uphall, on the web, for any others interested.
