I continue to search for any info about a Peter Beck who lived near Brecknock Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. I am seeking his birth/death dates and all information about his father, also a Peter Beck. The following is known:
21 Jan 1766
The marriage book of Rev. John Samuel Schwerdfeger at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Holland contain this record: "Beck, Hans Peter, son of Peter, and Bücher, Elisabeth, daughter of Engel, from Brecknock, were married in the Muddy Creek Church. Sermon John 2:1.
By this marriage date we must assume Peter was born before 1752 to be 15 or older at time of marriage.
The Brecknock Township tax list for 1770 shows these listings: Hance Beck, Jacob Beck, Phillip Beck. There is also a Jacob Beck in Cocalico Township.
In the 1790 Census Peter Beck's household is listed in Brecknock Township with:
2 males 16 and over (born <=1774)
1 male under 16 (born 1775-1790)
His listing is near Samuel, Jacob, and John Good and one page before Henry Boucher (Bucher), his brother-in-law, and one page following a George Beck.
In the 1820 Census we find a Peter Beck household in Brecknock Township that has:
Under 10 (1811-1820) = 4 sons
10-15 (1805-1810) = 2 sons
16-25 (1795-1804) = 2 sons
26-44 (1776-1794) = 1 son
45 & over (<=1775) = 2 (father & ?)
10-15 (1805-1810) = 1 daughter
16-25 (1795-1804) = 1 daughter
26-44 (1776-1794) = 1 daughter
45 & over (<=1775) = 1 mother
His listing is next to Christian and Samuel Good.
In the 1840 Census a Joseph Beck is listed in Brecknock Township near the same neighbors (the Goods) where Peter Beck was in previous years, so it appears Joseph is a son of Peter who has taken over his father's property. No Peter is found in this year. Living in Joseph's household:
Under 5 (1836-1840) =1 son
30-39 (1801-1810) = 1 father
Under 5 (1836-1840) = 1 daughter
5-9 (1831-1835) = 1 daughter
20-29 (1811-1820) = 1 ?
A Peter Beck immigrated on the ship St. Andres, Captain Robert Brown, from Rotterdam last by Cowles, 18 Aug 1750. No proof of any connection at this point.
Information I have on the Elisabeth Bucher my Peter Beck married is on my website at http://www.siteservers.net/family
where you should look up in my tree's name list Hans Peter Beck to locate the right person, the check out his wife to see the Bucher lines. Elisabeth's brothers are living in the Brecknock area into the early 1800's and show up as Bicher surnames as the Bucher name evolved. In later years some become Beecher. You can reach me through the website or by email above.
I will be sharing all Beck info I uncover, whether related to my Peter or not, in subsequent messages here.
