If you have not done so already then have a look at Family Search.com "United Kingdom and Ireland" collection (access from the foot of the site's main page.

You will find images of original England Norfolk Parish Records, and also Bishops' transcripts and Archdeacons' transcripts for the county. Whilst none of these image sets is necessarily complete, if the relevant parts of the parish record for Binham have not survived then you may find the information you want in the annual transcripts from the PR which were completed by the parish and submitted to Bishop and Archdeacon.

Good hunting!

That is a shame Mike,

I recognise that you are a seasoned researcher but, just in case there is a Norfolk message board reader who may be able to help, please can you give your sources for name, birth year and place, together with your so far unsubstantiated findings.

Baptism may have been soon after birth, or later, and not necessarily in the same parish; PR tended to be brief in the 1630s and may not have included middle name; also, spelling in either the original record or a subsequent transcription may have varied a little.

I'm afraid this has been a dead end in the Binham, Norfolk search. I went to Binham and also to Norwich, Norfolk and researched records there. 1635 would have been after and during the English Reformation when most Priories were destroyed. Binham Priory, even though it was mostly destroyed, still serves as a functioning, repaired Nave today. Maybe records survived but so far I have not found them. Right or wrong, it is the only scratch of information even though I am not sure where it originated. Perhaps it will be confirmed or refuted one day but I keep it as a place to begin and continue the search. MIKE BECK

Thank you for responding,

This is not my family and I have no actual findings to share with you, but have you tried the free access resource at Family Search?

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-6P44-SHF?mode=g...

has images of original Binham PR covering "Baptisms, Marriages, Burials 1559-1653". Some of these images are particularly difficult to read but if you find them impossible you may find something useful in the alternative (but incomplete) Bishops and Achdeacons' transcript image collections for Norfolk, also available on the Family Search website.

In any case, individual images can be enlarged within the Family Search website view; and also downloaded, offering the possibility of manipulating contrast & brightness on your own computer to aid reading.

If you have any doubt about years of birth or christening you could search over several years and of course allow for name variations, but you will know that.

Particularly in view of the religeous upsets at about that period, and if you have not done so already, you may also wish to search the surviving non-conformist records as well as those of the established church.

Your reference to Binnham may come from the same source as two 19/01/2011 submissions for a William Beck b1635 in the 'IGI', now archived within Family Search. perhaps curious that both were posted on the same date but maybe one or other of the numbered subscribers can be contacted and may now know more.

Good luck.

Paul
