My name is Jonathan Wood Logan, my father is Douglas Wood Logan and his grandmother was Lillian Wood. Curious to know more about the Wood name - esp. from Scotland and upstate New York.

Best regards,

Jonathan

Jonathan,
These Woods came from England to Westmoreland County, Virginia, in the 1600's, and made their way into Southwest Virginia in the late 1700's. This information comes from a monument of MARTIN BIRD WOOD 1845-1908, in Bristol, TN.

The name LOGAN probably came from Caroline Gray Wood's brother SAMUEL LOGAN GRAY who was killed in the Battle of Saltville (VA) during the Civil War.

There may be more on the Wood family on the Scott County, Virginia, Genweb Site or on Rootsweb.

Thank You,
Clark Gray
