Search information on John S. Merritt of Maine. I know he was married in Livermore and died in Machias. His father was John Suel or Sewall Merritt from Plantation 22. I do not have any birth information. Any infomation would be greatly appreciated. Jean

Hi,
Who were your Merritt's as my Merritt's came down from Maine to Mass. Sarah Fisher was the sister of my Merritt descendant. Are you no longer related to Sarah? Jean

Hi!
That message was when I was just looking for the Merritt who married Charlotte Hall. I thought I had the right Merritt's but was wrong. Do you need me to check out your Merritt's in MA. I have become quite proficient with MA records. My Merritt was Benjamin Franklin Merritt. His ancestors were in Scituate MA the men of Kent.

Let me know if you need help in MA.

Hi, Just read your post of last year, re Merritts in MA. We're trying to find Col. James Merritt. Our info is from Picton Press book "Early Pleasant River Families", Washington County, Maine. The refernce is to Mary Allen (Merritt) Stanwood, daughter of Col James Merritt who died in Battle of Bunker Hill. So far no luck in any of the Revolutionary material we've checked. Mary was born c Aug 1765, presumably in MA. She died at Columbia, Washington County, Maine 15 Feb 1834. Any info/suggestions/hints greatly appreciated!

I too am have been looking for col. James merritt of Bunker Hill. His granddaughter, Catherine Redman Stanwood, is my ggg-grandmother. I've spent 20 years trying to raise him but have had no luck at all. He is not listed in any revolutionary battles at all.
