Another Jacober connection

Another Jacober connection

Surnames: Jacober
My father was Ferdinand William Jacober Jr and was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1918. His father was also called Ferdinand Wm Jacober who was married to Grace Amanda Frashier. They had three children- Dorothy, Gordon, Ferdinand Wm (my father), and Calvin. My great grandparents were Frederick H Jacober who married a Schuman. This is all I know.
I was astonished to see all the messages for Jacobers using google and would love to know when my ancestors came to the USA, why, and from where. I have been told that there is a Swiss connection and possibly an Alsace Lorraine connection but noone in the family seems to know and my parents and my aunts and uncles are now dead. It would be wonderful to be able to pass on more to my older children who are dual nationals as I live in England now.
I have not done any searching before so am very green to all this but thought it would be worth a try!
Please contact me if you think there is a connection.

I have done extensive research on the Jacobers of Baltimore. Your great-grandfather Ferdinand H. Jacober was my great-grandfather's brother. My great-grandfather settled in Cincinnati, Ohio and was a barber just like Ferdinand H. Their mother immigrated from Switzerland in 1870 with her five living children, Anna, Casper Joseph (my great-grandfather), Ferdinand, Emil, and Barbara. I have researched your branch of the family and have information which I compiled from the US censuses. I also have information the Swiss Archives on the family. I look forward to sharing more information.

Beth, I am looking for Calvin's mothers (Grace Wannell) biological father. Was his name Frasier? I also don't know her mother's name, as she was raised by her aunt.

Hello Marcia
Very exciting to get a message from you. I am wondering how we are related to each other? I assume you know that my sister, Dotty, and her family live nearby in Baltimore.

My mother had written out a small family tree for me and it shows Grace Amanda Frashier as married to FW Jacober and adopted by Aunt Ida Wannall as you already know. Mother spelled her maiden name as Frashier and shows her parents as Jennie Wood who married James Frashier. Then we have Jennie Wood's parents as Geroge Wood married to someone with a maiden name of Douglas but mother did not know her first name.
Hope this is of some help.

I would like to know more about my great grandmother who married Ferdinand H Jacober and her maiden name was Anna M. Schuman 1863-1930 but from info that Julie Menner sent, she was his 2nd wife. (It looks like his first wife who is called Catherine Deibel died the same year as their only child Katie (1883)so I guess she might have died in childbirth.) I would be grateful if you could let me know if you know anything about Anna Schuman.
All the very best, Beth

Beth,
I am Garth's wife. Garth is Calvin's son. I am interested in finding out more about Grace, Calvin's mother. Do you know why she was adopted by her aunt? Do you know anything else about her parents? The number we have for Dotty and Susan Carol are out of service, maybe you could help me with those.
Marcia

Oh Marcia I didn't realise. I thought you lived in California and since your profile says Delaware that confused me.
Dotty's number is 410 667 4346 but don't know Susan's number although Dotty can help with that. Dotty's day off is Friday or weekends are best times to catch her in. She will be delighted to hear from you.
Aunt Dot hinted at some scandal with the adoption thing but she didn't seem to really know the reason for the adoption. I don't think Susan would know either. Don't know how you could find out more? Our dad didn't talk about his family very much and evidently Gordon was like that too. Not entirely sure why that was? Good luck with it all and would love to know if you find out more. Love to Garth and the family.

Beth, et al,
My wife has been sorting out her family with this amazing new tool. She helped me find this site. So, here I am in a most unhelpful manner, but interested in knowing what is going on. I do not mind a message at jock@sopris.net. I am the eldest son of Gordon Jacober and Helen Whetstone of Denver.
