I came across this website looking for descendents of slaves due to the mass media hipe of Sally Hemmings and Thomas Jefferson.
When out of pure curiousness to see if there had been any Keels descendents out there.

Census records of a selected Indian family and their migrational patterns out of the states of Virginia, North Carolina and tennesse, before and during the removal era from the 1810's through the 1830's. The Progenitors of the McKeel, Keel and Keels families of southern and central Ohio are Moses McKeel ca. 1795 to 1802 and Sabra Hanson/Henson B. ca. 1798 to 1802. Moses McKeel married Sabra Hanson sometimes speeled Henson. Sept. 28,1820 in Jackson County, Ohio. between 1826 and 1830 Moses and family moved to Lick Township, Jackson County as they were recorded on the 1830 census. On 1840 Ohio census in Licktownship Moses and Sabra are recorded having four(4) sons and six daughters(6) the youngest son Daniel was born after 1840 ca. On 1850 Jackson county census Moses and Sabra son William is recorded as a 23 year old male mulatto born in Ohio, residing with his wife Hester Wright and two children Alexander and Malinda. From this lineage it wasn't popular to speak of being Indian especially during the removal period of the 1830's when the Indians were forced off their lands in Virginia, N.Carolina, Tennesse, Alabama and Georgia and out of Ohio in 1842 to lands west of the Mississippi.

Sabra and Moses are my 5th Gandmother and Grandfather and from my lineage the Keels name has seen a lot of changes this information is from our own reunion and Family tree, there's more but to much to type if you happen to come across this Message Board and you may have some sort of connection to any Keels in Ohio please E-Mail me God Bless All

Hello Nancy. My sister and I are very interested in locating our family tree. From what we were told, we are not included in it. Our fathers name is ronald keels. He passed away on Oct. 11, 1994. He has three daughters, Cheryl, Lori, and Rebecca. From what we understand, rebecca is the only one listed as a descendant. We can very much prove we are also his daughters. We would like any information you could possibly send us on this subject. thank you so much, cheryl keels. if you would like to contact me by phone, my number is 517-823-9140. thank you again. Cheryl and Lori Keels

I am part of that family. Daniel McKeel is buried in the Union Baptist Church cemetery in Blackfork.
I now live in Michigan but go through that part of Ohio every year for the Oak Hill Festival of Flags. It is very hard to keep up with all of the name changes.
I am not really familiar with the Indian aspect of the history, more familiar with the Black part of it.
Thanks for posting all of this information.

Moses comes from what location and time period? I would like to find out any information you may have of this ancestor. I am not sure there is a relationship to my ancestors but as remote as it may be Beaufort County is where many of my family ancestors lived.

Thanks

My grandmother is Dorthy "Dottie" Keels - Owens who was married to Raymond Owens. She passed years ago in Columbus,OH was the daughter of Elliott and Naomi Keels of Blackfort, OH, (my great grand parents)and she has brothers and sisters who are now living Fostoria OH, one of which is named Cash. There are a host of Keels living in the fostoria area. Dottie had several children: Tiny, Harold, Francis, Tona, and Robert. Robert who is my dad use to visit the home of my great grand parents when I was very young, up on the hill in blackfort, and even visited some relatives which i was too young to remember. Nothing is left on the property in blackfort now, i heard vandals tore it down and thru things in the well.
