I am looking for any Alabama Cobb / Kirkland lines.

My gggrandmother was Lula Kirkland. I don't know anything about her. The only thing I know is that she had a son named William Semer Cobb
on his funeral record it says his name was William Semer Cobb Jr. and it lists his mother as Lula Kirkland and father as William Semer Cobb Sr.

I am not sure about the Jr / Sr titles.

My other gggrandmother was Sarah Jane Kirkland married Pierson D. Christian
any info on that line would be appreciated also.

Sincerly,
Nathan Timothy Cobb

Nathan:

I don't know who William Semer Cobb was, but I can tell you that in my
husband's background there is a Semer Cobb. He married Esther Lewis,
daughter of William and Mary Lewis of Dorchester, SC, in 1794.

Semer parentage and place of birth are unknown at this time, but he was born
in 1770, and died in 1857 in Warren Co., IN. After leaving SC, he lived in
Alabama for a short while, and then Ohio before coming to Lawrence Co., IN.
Later, they moved to Warren Co., IN to be with John and Mary Lewis Rhode,
Esther's sister, and the Rhode extended family. Years later, after his
wife's death in 1847, Semer sold his land and went back to Lawrence Co. IN
to live with his son Thomas Cobb. But he is buried in Warren Co. next to
Esther.

Semer and Esther had a son William, who married his cousin, Allice Rhode.
But I don't think he is the William Semer Cobb you are looking for (I don't
know what this Williiam's middle name was. They lived in Warren Co.,
Indiana. This William was born in 1805, most likely in SC, and died in
Warren Co. IN. in 1895.
Besides Thomas and William, their other children were Sarah, Dixon, Ira,
Caleb, John, Mary, and Martha.

William and Allice Cobb also had a son named William who was born in 1845
and died in 1849.

Just yesterday, I received an e-mail that said there is a Martha Cobb who seemed to have a brother named Semer.
Martha married an Enoch Ferrell.
Enoch and Martha lived in North Carolina, but moved to Kentucky.

Floy,
Ann Carr referred me to your message. I don't know if you have had a chance to talk with her, but we are part of a Ferrell/Cobb research group. It all started with my question about my gg grandfather Caswell Seymour Cobb Ferrell. Caswell married Mary Polly Adkins in 1825 Morgan Co., TN. My question was: Why was Caswell named Caswell Seymour Cobb Ferrell? What was his relationship with Seymour Cobb? I do not know who Casswell's parents are, however Caswell's name must have a connection to Seymour Cobb. Would be interested in a discussion of the Cobb-Ferrell connection. Please contact me at bgriffis@isoc.net.
