Surnames: Landfried
The Landfried surname in WV is derived from a single family settling on Sycamore Creek just outside of Ripley in Jackson County WV in the 1840s. Family tradition stated that the family originated in Bavaria, but the village could not be located. Records have now been found establishing beyond doubt that this group of Landfrieds derives from the village called Lettweiler located in the modern day Rhineland-Pfalz and the Pfalz was probably part of Bavaria at one point. Once the correct spelling was obtained a search in Google.com produced a modern day picture of this village and 800+ internet sites which mention this village.

Hi Sandra,
This may be a "far-fetched" idea but in working on the Abels-Anderson family I have an old old letter written by a family member excerpt reads as follows" Mother had an aunt Mary Ann Rader that lived at Ravenswood. Dad had an Aunt Sarah Landfried that lived at Ripley. I think was Grandma's sister. There are several Landfrieds at Ripley; all nice friendly people." Have you any Abels-Andersons in your family line? Would appreciate any help you can give.
I will be back in Ravenswood May 2008 still digging up family roots. My e-mail is FJPotts@aol.com
