I am looking for any info on grandparents Eva Spyrdz and Michael Kon/Kohn from the Ukraine. Spyrdz and Kon may be a Lemko name. Spyrdz could be short for spyrdzswicz. I have hit a brick wall and only know the village names Radoszce and Kamenka. Hoping someone may have some info for my puzzle.

My maiden name was Spyrdz. Maybe I can help a little? I don't know much about my grandfather's ancestry (his last name was Spyrdz) but he came from Ukraine.

thanks for the reply. The name is so unusual that I can not find any relatives or links. My grandparents were from the Ukraine from an area called Galicia. My grandparents had cousins in the states but unfortunately I don't have info.Do you have any info that might fit into my tree? Where are you located? My grandparents lived in the chicago suburbs after arriving in their new land and belonged to the Russian Orthodox Church. I know my grandparents had sisters and brothers, but that is about it.

Dory,
After talking to my mother and grandmother last night, I believe that we are in the same family tree. I live in Chicago and all my known Spyrdz relatives were in Chicago. My mother tells me that my grandfather had a cousin Jacob Spyrdz in Joliet and he had two cousins who live in the Chicago suburbs - I believe their names were Helen and Rose. My mother was under the impression that Kon was either their married last name, or perhaps the name of one of their parents. I mentioned the name of the town in Ukraine and my mother thinks that sounds right about where my grandfather's family was from. My grandfather also belonged to the Russian Orthodox church. If you'd like to email me instead of posting through the board for more info, let me know and I will forward my address to you. Maybe we can piece more together and find the links :)

Yes, I do think we are related. In fact, I may have met your grandmother and grandfather at a family reunion about 5 years ago. Please email me directly to share info. Jacob Spyrdz was my father Peter's first cousin. Perhaps your grandfather was also my father's first cousin.

Thanks,
Dory

Why are you repeatedly posting your messages to ALL boards. You should post to the appropriate Surname board.

Could you please say who you are referring to? If it is me, I am new to this and do not even know how it would post to all boards. Help would be appreciated.
