My grandfather Carl Seltzer came to Cleveland, Ohio from Poland in the 1920's with his brother Joseph and sister. They lived in Ohio until 1933 when they moved to Texas where a whole batch of relatives live under the name of Selzer. The sister remained in Cleveland and married into the Linden family. Robin, My maiden name is Selzer. My grandfather is William Huber Selzer, his father was Simon Selzer, and his grandfather was Martin Selzer who was born May 6, 1940 in Austria. He immigrated to America through the port of New York in 1886. He married Amelia Huber and then Susan Hohn. They came to Texas and we have been here every since.
If any of this looks familiar, lets compare notes

Hi Veronica!,
I think we have a distant connection!

My great grandmother was Pauline Selzer, born in 1880 in Radautz, Austria (which is present day Romania). Pauline's father was Jacob Selzer (jr) who married Adolfine Leib. Jacob Selzer's father was also Jacob Selzer (sr.) (born about 1804) who married Catharina Reif (born about 1801) in 1827 (I have a copy of the church marriage entry that lists their ages when they married).

Anyway, am presently looking through the Mormom microfilm on Radautz birth records, and have discovered that Jacob Sr. Selzer Catharina Reif had at least 10 children, of which one was Martin Selzer. In the birth records, so far I've found their son Martin Selzer and Maria Huber having a Jacob on July 20, 1868, a Simon on August 22, 1875. Have also found a Martin Selzer and Amalia Huber having a Martin on June 5, 1873. Am assuming that Amalia and Maria are one and the same but am not sure.

Are these your Selzers? Do you know the date they were married? And did he marry Susan Hohn over in Texas or back in Romania?

Pauline Selzer came to North Dakota married Frank Weber (also from Radautz) and they always lived in North Dakota. Pauline's brother Jacob (Jake) also came to North Dakota -- he never married.

Hello Barb

I e-mailed you last night, I am Veronica's mother. My father-in-law is William Huber Selzer.

thoght that you might be interested in the fact that he was named after Amalia. He went by Huber for a long time but everyone mispronounced it so he dropped it and started using William or Bill.

He also has a brother named Simon Selzer Jr.

Just thought you might be interested. We seemed to hit a brick wall until Veronica ran across family history.....Judy

Mary Selzer married Geo Wm Huepers abt 1898
at Fayette CO., Texas; she was born in Texas
abt 1880 and died at Galveston 17 Aug 1923.
Their children are August Edward,Olga, and Ella. August married Marjorie Rammer at
Galveston in 1921 and Olga married Lawrence
Wigbels.

Mary Selzer, older brother, Joseph married
Martha Huepers, Geo Wm's younger sister.

These Huepers-Selzer and Selzer-Huepers
both have large descendant families in
Brazoria and Fayette counties.

My cousins and I are searching for the parents of Joseph and Mary.

Veronica Harney and I are in correspondance;
her kin arrived in the mid 1880s; while mine
arrived earlier that 1880. We have not connected our genealogy as yet; Steve

These names sound very familiar to me . Seems I've seen them in my husband's bible or other important papers concerning his family. My father-in-law was Troy Selzer, his father was Will and grandfather Simon. I think Troy grew up around Sanger, TX, close to Denton. Ring any bells?

I might have gotten some names mixed up, but I know there is a Martin in the family, too, and the group is from Austria.

I think that you could help me. I am looking for information on Katherine Selzer, married to John Frombach. From the research that I have they are from Austria/Romania area. Their son John Fromback b.5/22/1870 immigrated to the United States around 1906 give or take a year or to. He married Agnes Sokol before moving to the States and had 4 children, two died and the remaining are Gizella and Johann (John). Gizella is my great grandmother.

Surnames: SELZER, FROMBACH, REIF
Hi Gretchen,
Indeed I think I do have some information for you and believe we are related. We would share the same ancestors: Jakob Selzer (born Oct 3, 1803) and Catharina Reif (born in 1801).

My records show Johan Frombach (born Nov 24, 1848 in Satulmare, Bukovina) married Margaretha Selzer (born Sept 1, 1849 in Satulmare). They indeed had Johan Frombach, born May 22, 1870 -- and he married Agnes Sokol on July 26, 1896 in Radautz, Bukovina. I do not have the names of any of their children, so would love to get details (names & dates) if you have them.

I show Johan Frombach's (b: Nov 24, 1848) parents were Jacob Frombach (born in 1812) and Christina König (born about 1820).

Margaretha Selzer's (b: Sept 1, 1849) parents were Jakob Selzer (born Oct 3, 1803 in Arbora, Bukovina) and Catharina Reif (born 1801 in Radautz).

Jakob Selzer's (b: Oct 3, 1803) parents were Nicolaus Selzer and Catharina Bäcker. Catharina Reif's (born 1801) parents were Georg (Johann) Reif (born abt 1767) and Barbara (last name unknown).

Incidentally, I also found that Johan Frombach married a second time once Margaretha Selzer died in 1874. His second wife was Elisabetha Bäcker and they had at least 3 children that I know of.

If you would like a file with more info and source info, please let me know your e-mail address and I'll send directly to you.

Sincerely, Barb Schmitt
