My husband's family are related to the Ball family from Madison County, N.C. His great grandfather was Manley Ball, whose mother was Elizabeth Ball, she later married Mose Freeman. I would like to exchange information. Linda Rector

I am looking for any information I can find on my BALL family. The information I have so far, as limited as it is, places them in Wake Co., NC, but there has been mention of Buncomb Co. as well, and there are similar names.

I am looking for ancestors of John T. Ball, m.Laura L. Williams,b: 1839.

Their children were:

O. R. Ball, b: 1857

George Freeman Ball, b: Feb 24, 1859, d: Jul 04, 1915 in Raleigh, NC, m. Nellie (Ellen?) M. "Mamma" Harris, b: Aug 08, 1870 in Johnston County, d: in Raleigh, NC

O. G. Ball, b: 1862

W. D. Ball b: 1866

C. O. Ball, b: 1869

Nora A. Ball, b: 1875

Any help would be appreciated, Terry Woodall Tharpe

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I'm not familiar with any of the Ball members that you named. Are any of your relatives from Madison County? The Ball family that are my husband's family descended from Joel and Elizabeth Jarvis Ball; they were the parents of Noel and Jame "Manley" Ball.

Hello, I am also researching a "Laura Williams" in/near Buncombe County. The birthdate that you have for her seems consistant for the time frame of the "Laura Williams" I am focused on, but I don't have a middle initial.

Do you have "Williams" as Laura's maiden name? I have her maiden name as Summey (or Sumney). I have also been told that Laura married twice. The Williams marriage is known (that's the union I descended from). Her other marriage is not known on our side. However she had children through both unions. I do not know which marriage came first. It is possible that perhaps she married Williams first, and kept his name as a widow or other reasons and later married Ball. I don't know. Does that help???

Aaron Freeman, b abt 1793 Rowan, NC was in Buncombe Co. late 1700's early 1800's. Eventually went to MO about 1839, after trek down south (MS or AL?).

He married two Ball women, Elise and Alabeth (believe both, or at least Alabeth was of Indian blood). Do not think they were sisters, cousins maybe.

Aaron's daughter Sarah married my ancester Henry William Wood.

I'm seeking info about my ggg grandfather, James WOOD, who went to TN from NC (possibly Buncombe Co.) Supposedly he had a brother named Henry. James married Elizabeth MARTIN? before 1816. Their children were William A. WOOD, Carter WOOD, Pleasant Bennett WOOD, and James W. WOOD. Any connection?

Pat,
Census records show that Elizabeth MARTIN? was b. in GA; her gravestone reads 1790. Same records show that James? WOOD was b. in NC, but I don't have a date or date/place of death (think it was TN). Haven't found a marriage record. Don't know where the name Bennett comes from. Part of the family says the son James's middle name is Wilson; part says it's Wilkes. This family, minus the husband of Elizabeth, migrated to Itawamba Co. MS about 1843, and Elizabeth died there in 1873.
