I am looking for a John Handrahan/Hanrahan from Ireland who came to Prince Edward Island. He had a son JOHN THOMAS who would be my ggrandfather. JOHN came to Nova Scotia, married twice and my grandfather being first born. After JOHN moved to U.S.A. and was never heard from again. Could John Handrahan/Hanrahan from Ireland be relation to Mary b. 1810??What became of her two brothers-John and James? My grandfather was baptised James Bernard b. 1877. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks
Doreen

Given the passage of time, I wonder if this posting is still live? If so, I have some information on this family, eg. Patrick Hanrahan (Powerswood, Inistioge) m. 23 Feb. 1840, Ellen Cashin while Anastatia Hanrahan m. 27 Feb. 1843, Edmond Cashin of Ballycocksuas, Inistioge. The Cassins/Cashins still live in the neighbourhood.

Michael.

Hello,

While I have some information on the Hanrahan/o'Hanrahan family in county Kilkenny, I am unfamiliar with the surname Rankin. If provided with additional information, in particular, townland/parish address, I will be very happy to help in so far as I can.

Have you any information on my grandfather John Hanrahan and family who were from Killaspy. My father left Ireland in the early 1920s but I believe he was from Killaspy.I have an old photograph with that address on the back dated 1949 but I do not know when he died.I believe my grandmother was called Mary.

John born 1902 was my father, then there was James who went to Canada,Eileen(Nell) who came to England and was married to John Devereau.Mary who married and had a family remained in Ireland.

Hello Mary,
I'm afraid I don't have any information on a Hanrahan family from Kilaspy which is in the parish of Dunkitt. What information I have is mainly pre-official registration which dates from 1864 and derives from parish registers and gravestones. Information from 1864 can be obtained from the GRO (General Registry Office).

I am looking for any information regarding the family of David and Mary(nee Sullivan)Hanrahan. I have her year of birth as 1837. Their children with birth dates were: Nora (1864), Anna (1868), John (6/24/1869), Anastacia (1870), Mary Elizabeth (9/25/1872), and Annie M. (3/25/1873). Mary Elizabeth's death certificate shows her place of birth as Kilkenny. This is the only info I have on location.

The only "David Hanrahan" occurring in Griffith's Primary Valuation of Tenements (c. 1849) for county Kilkenny occupied land in Kilmurry, Thomastown. A memorial in Columbkille Cemetery bears the following inscription
"Of your charity pray for the soul of DAVID HANRAHAN of Blessington, who departed this life on 8th November, 1875 aged 54 yars. Also his mother HONORA HANRAHAN who died April 23rd., 1870 aged 70 years. Also his loving wife ANASTATIA M. HANRAHAN who died 22nd April, 1894 aged 58 years and PERER JOSEPH HANRAHAN, Blessington."

The occurrence of the christian/first names NORA and ANASTATIA in your family suggests, but is not conclusive evidence, that this is your family.

While not then related, the family is well known to me and the then residence in Blessington is occupied by a cousin through a later marriage. The late Peter Hanrahan was, for a number of years a member of the local authority, Kilkenny County Council and was an unsuccessful candidate for the national parliament, Dail Eireann. His son Joe was an unsuccessful candidate in the June, 2009 local elections.

If you can provide any additional information, which may be obtainable through public or church records, it may be possible to verify that this is your family.

I agree with you on the names as John Hanrahan(b1869) also had daughters named Honora and Anastasia(my great grandmother). I'll keep digging for further records. Thank you for the help.
