If you have not already found it, try looking at the pages of "Jönköpingsbygdens Genealogiska Förening" at:
http://w1.361.telia.com/~u36104886/index.htm
I took a brief look under Gränna and found several facts about the Tallbergs there i.e:

Lotta Tallberg died in Aranäs 18571016 in 'Rödsot'=dysenteria. Johannes Tallberg-Månsson obviously remarried to Maria Danielsdotter on 18581205.
Johannes Tallberg died 18900510 at the age of 88 years an 6 months. His occupation then was gardener.

Johanna Charlotta Tallberg married Anders Pettersson from Gränna city on 18510420 and
Karolina Tallberg married Sven Johan Bard on 18561123, she died young from fever 18660607.

I will leave it there. There are a lot more to find out about the Tallbergs from those records, but I leave it to you,

I am just beginning to dig deeper than the notes acquired through family gatherings.. My g-grandfather, Johan Modig, born 14 Aug. 1839, was a soldier in Sweden. We were given to believe his name was changed to Carlsson for the Army, but other records(family) indicate the Carlsson surname was on his wife's side. She was born 28 Apr 1841. They were married 21 Oct 1865. Their children:
1)Samuel Modig (Moody) m. Delia____
2)Hannah Modig m. Claus Gustafson (perhaps in Sweden )
3)Selma Karolina Modig born 7 Oct. 1873, Kallunga, Alvsborg, Sweden m. William Wilkins Brewster NY,USA 3 Aug 1893 (my g-parents)
4)Evelina Modig m. Geo. Green, USA
5)Mary Modig m. Carl Holmberg, USA
6)Anna Modig m. Eric Osterberg, Brewster NY, USA 15 May 1898
7)Carl Modig m. Elin ,USA

August Andersson and Anna Maria Andersdotter were baptismal sponsors if at least one of those children (Anna Modig).
The family came to USA in 1889, left my 16 yr old g-mother working in NY and started for MN or WI, but Johan took ill and died in Ottumwa IA. and the rest turned back to Brewster NY. It is unknown if there were family they were to meet, or if they were on their own on their trip west. The similar surnames caught my eye. Sweden being such a small country, some of my people may have come fron Ostergotland. Any leads would be appreciated. Thank you.

The more I learn, the more likely it seems that Carlsson was the original surname of Johan Modig b. 1839, in Sweden. A daughter's birth certificate lists him as Johan Carlsson Modig (soldier). This daughter, Anna Sophia Carlsson, was b.8 Oct 1879 in Kallunga, Alvsborg, SWE. I believe my g-mother, Selma Karolina , sister to Anna Sophia and b. 7 Oct 1873 was born in the same town. However a document..Flyttningsbevis (which I am told is like a change of address form)..states her name as Hamm__attern(?) Selma Karolina JOHANSON Modig. Very confusing.
