Has anyone figured out how to print an alphabetical listing of individuals in Family Tree? I have printed the suggested link but it is not alpah.
Thanks.

There is an alphabetical listing of all persons in each tree, including date of birth and date of death, if known. The entire list can be printed; by each letter of the alphabet being selected individually; a surname list or a given name list can be printed. I have noticed occasionally that there is a glitch in the system that lists a name or two out of alphabetical sequence. However, I am not aware of any major jumbling of names on the list. The list of names cannot be used as an index to access the referenced files. Be careful when selecting your print queues to allow for errors in files.Good Luck.

fhsleuth: On behalf of Jorgensen_JoAnn may I please ask how you initiate this print process? Other than pressing the PrtScrn button, which will only get you the first 50, I see no method. Many thanks.

I've done this on a Mac:
Save each page as a pdf to the desk-top (create a new file, such as "ACOM Tree Index" on the desk-top to keep it clean), numbering the pages in sequence as you save them.
After all the pages are saved, open (the pdf) Page #1 of your index, hit the multiple page view and drag all the other pages into Page #1's multiple page view. You now have your index in one document. Check to make sure you have them in correct sequence before you print a hard copy.
You can choose 20, 50, or 100 people per page, to show in the ACOM tree list view. See the bottom left of the list view page to adjust how many profiles you want to display per page.

dklart: Surely that method saves the page as a screen shot, effectively the same as the "PrtScrn" that I mentioned earlier, making it necessary to edit each one to remove the Ancestry headers and footers. I suppose it is workable for a very small tree, but larger ones may have more than 100 people in many of the alphabet groups, and start to become very hard work.

@nickshillaker I believe the header/footer issue comes from using the print screen function as one is copying the entire screen view which includes the full header and footer. Therefore, there would be a lot of editing to remove such.
I pulled up the list of all persons in my tree and beginning with the first name on my list, which includes anyone with only a first name or names bracketed by quotation marks, and such. I have approximately 200 such names, but only the first 100 will print on about six pages if Print Preview is selected prior to printing same. After the first page, there is no header printed other than the column headings for each page. A small footer appears at the top of the last page, which is page 7, and does not need to be selected to print. This may vary based on one's list. Further, I selected "Portrait" and "78 percent" before printing.
The same method should work by selecting individual alphas and then "Print Preview" that selection, and so on up to 100 names. Names from 101-200 would require another selection, etc.
However, have you considered that such a listing will be accurate only until new names are added to the tree? Dividing the names by alphabet should minimize somewhat the need to reprint the whole list when an alpha section would be sufficient.
Otherwise, one would need to state the need to ACOM to include a button for printing the entire list, which may be alpha but not indexed, unless a special request is made for inclusion of that feature.
I hope this clarifies things a bit more for another work-around method.

fhsleuth: Agreed, "Print Preview" splits the page to make leaving out the headers and footers easier, and I have made a usable PDF of a small tree. Now I am working on a neater solution for larger trees.

@nickshillaker Would you please share your solution when finalized. Such could be a handy tool at times, if the process for obtaining same could be improved.
Should you decide to petition ACOM for an added feature to produce such a listing, I would attach my "yes" vote. Thank you.

Given the labor-intensive workaround, purchase of any version of Family Tree Maker would seem to be worthwhile, if you really need a hard copy list.
But, as soon as you print it and find one more important cousin/sibling/in-law, it is out of date. IMO, a digital copy is more useful. I use PDF Maker and Universal Document Converter to "print" an electronic copy. When I'm heading to the library or the courthouse, I can print a page or pages to take with, just in case I am not permitted to enter with my Netbook.

It would be cheaper to download a copy of a free genealogical program, such as PAF, download the tree as GEDCOM, open the file with the program and print a list.
