Caroline Davy (of Wales) married to William Wilkins, 1840

My G grandmother was Caroline DAVY who married William Wilkins on 8 Oct 1840 at St Brides Major, Glamorgan. She was born at St Brides Minor, Glamorgan on 22 Sept 1822 to Leyson Hopkin Davy and Elizabeth (nee Lawrence).

Does anyone know more of the Davy family?

For example, I suspect Edwin Davy, a surveyor, may have been a brother to Caroline. An Edwin Davy migrated to Auckland NZ where he taught my grandfather George Wilkins the rudiments of surveying. Was it uncle teaching his young nephew? In 1868 the two then joined in part-owning a gold mine in NZ. Ah, the wonders of family history.

I don't suppose you would know anything. i can only trace as far as the mid 19th century most of the wilkins in the cardiff/glamorgan area seem to be linked I'm not sure how it all fits together

Debra,
I cannot make any connection except the names and place are coincidental.
My GG grandfather, Leyson Hopkin Davy (1782-1872), was born in Cardiff, Wales to Jonathon & Mary Davy. Leyson married Elizabeth Lawrence in St Brides Minor in 1832. They had 9 kids in St Brides Minor (I have details if required but they began in 1822). As you have a photo I will contact you direct and attach a pic of Leyson Hopkin Davy after he head retired from the HEIC and migrated to NZ (in 1841). He left behind his daughters, wife having died.
Cheers, David

I have now completed piecing together the family of Leyson Hopkin Davy (1782-1872) and wife Elizabeth (nee Lawrence) (abt 1798-1837) in Southern Wales. Their children were Caroline (1822), Charles (1825), Edwin (1826), Elizabeth (1828), Henry (1831), Ellen (1832), Maria (1834), Catherine (1836) and Sarah (b. 1837, d. 1838). Mother Elizabeth died just after the birth of Sarah in 1837.
Leyson and 3 sons migrated to NZ and established farms in New Plymouth area. Sons married and remained there but Leyson returned to Wales. He died in Clifton (Bristol) in 1872, aged 90.
Much more detail if anyone requires.

Philip, I am unaware of any Jhnathon and Mary Davy or Vaughan.

G'day Kiwi,

Things have progressed since my posting that notice. I have recently published a family history with two chapters on the Davy family. The book is called "From Brecon to Broken Hill; the History of a Wilkins Family" and a copy is held at Wellington, Auckland, Christchurch and New Plymouth libraries.
If you can have a look there hopefully it will answer some of your queries. Did you know, for example, one of the Davy family (Ned) was in the first NZ rugby side (1884, before they became known as the All Blacks)?
Regards,
David
