Leonard Dozier who married Ann Gayle is in error and I have documented proof that he married Anne Marks ca 1737. If you would like more info, please write at e-mail address.

Someone was interested in the family of Leonard
Dozier. I recently acquired the lists of descendants
of L. Dozier I who was born in France in 1646 and died
in Va in 1693. There was later a Leonard Dozier
that married Elizabeth Ingo. It was Leonard Dozier III
that was married to Anna Gayle.
I am related thru L.D., L.D.II, L.D.III,
James S., Dunwoody, Son, Ebenezer A., Augustus,
and the George E. Dozier was my grandfather. My father was
George Augustus Dozier--Montg, AL.
Would be glad to send you this volumn of
papers one of my brothers acquired. E-mail me if interested.
I am just beginning this study.

I would be interested in your research. My grandmother was a Dozier and Married David Sampson Vanderpool of Kaufman County, Texas. The Doziers were Hugenots and came to America from the Langedouc area of southern France. I would especially be interested in Leonard Dozier's ancestors in Europe.

Hello Elizabeth,
I'm guessing that you must be Elizabeth Vaughn, with whom I corresponded several times back in the 1980's. Tonight I saw your Oct. 15 post on the Dozier board on
FamilyHistory.com, and was excited to see that you are on-line. And
pleased to see that you're still trying to get people off of this myth that
Leonard III married Ann Gayle! In the post, you mentioned that you have
"documented proof" that his wife was Ann Marks, and of course I'm
interested in that. The last time we corresponded, you were convinced (and
you convinced me) of this, but hadn't quite "proven" it. So I'm anxious to
see what you may have learned.

You may recall that I'm a descendant of their daughter Susannah, who also
gets married off to the wrong person (Mark Thornton) but who in fact
married Thomas Roberts and John Barry. Everything I find supports this,
but I still have never found the one piece that will make it all fall into
place. But I keep looking, and try to keep chasing away those Thorntons!

Please contact me at roj@nccn.net

I was interested in you note about Leonard Dozier I who came from France in 1600s. Can you please tell me how you know he came from that region of France? I am a descendant of his and I will be in that part of France this summer.
Thanks.

Right at the moment I don't remember where I ran across the information that Leonard Dozier is from the Languedoc area of France. This is in the south of France, generally between Toulouse and Nimes. I will need to pull out my notes and get back to you. He was a Hugenot and probably was fleeing persecution by the Crown after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes. He left shortly before the St. Bartholomew's day massacre. I imagine that I found this information on a Hugenot web site. If you could e-mail me directly and give me your e-mail address, I might be able to get more information to you.
Thanks,
David Vanderpool

Re: DOZIERs From Bavaria? Dozier BRAGG -- mother Suzannah DOZIER

I see your Doziers were from France. There is also a group who say they are Bavarian. I have been unable to tie my Doziers to anyone. My ancester Dozier Bragg was born in Virignia abt 1763. He was still alive in 1850. On the Cannon co., Tenn. census he gives his age as 87. Most family trees have Suzannah Dozier being his mother. They give Suzannah's DOB 1702. That would make her 61 when Dozier was born. There are two other Doziers that link Suzanna as their mother. The Dozier who married Hannah Moffet and settled in Ill. He undoubtedly had ties to the Settles family by the name of one of his children. The other Dozier died in Oglethorpe Ga abt 1804 also has Suzannah as is mother...He too does not fit the age range...If these people indeed are in Dozier's line it seems there is a missing generation...I do find a Dosur Bragg in Tenn. that would fit in more with being a child of Dozier. Doshur is also a common spelling. Thomas Louis Parker a grandson of Dozier named one of his sons Doshur Parker....This has been confusing...When I was in Mo. in 2004 one of my mother's cousins informed me that there was Indian Blood in the tenn. Parker line. I don't know if it came from the Parkers, Braggs or Doziers? I fyou have any information that might untangle this confusion please write. Jim Heady
