Poland Towns/Provinces in 1800's

Looking for information regarding what province/area these towns are in from 'old' Poland.

Dakowy, Mokre (have great grandfather born here in 1862)

Walentynow (some notation was made with this for Posen, Preussen plus also have it marked on an old map showing as been south of Torun and east of Inowroclaw) Great grandmother was born here in 1863

Thanks in advance
Erin

You need to remember that Poland was divided between the three great Empires (German, Russian and Austro-Hungarian) in the 19th century. In the German and Austrian areas German was the official language,in Russian area, Russian. Posen was in Prussia (Germany) but is simply the German name for Poznan. Torun is actually the Polish name for what the Germans called Thorn and for part of the German era was called Hohensalza. Dakowy Mokre is near Poznan and Walentynow is south of Warsaw, fairly near to Lodz (cannot do the Polish letters properly!). Try googling both.

Thanks Halpark,

My problem is when googling Walentynow Poland...... there are about 6-8places with that name in different areas.
I contact Archives and someone there thinks they may have found what I need.
Thankyou for your reply.

A common problem and difficult. Can only suggest that as other indications are that it was the Poznan/Torun area the Walentynow nearest to that (if there is one!) could be the best bet. Good luck anyway. Hope others can provide tha answer.
