Hello, i am looking for anyone in the Black Country who is named Shingler.
My reason for this search is that in 1940 a gentleman by the name of THOMAS SHINGLER gave his surname of Shingler to my great Uncle through DEED POLL.
I am unaware of any marriage having taken place between Thomas Shingler and my great grandmother Harriet Walker but it would be interesting to try and find out why this took place.
All the information that i have is Thomas Shingler and Harriet Walker lived together, we believe in Spon Lane, West Bromwich in 1940 untill his death, but this is not confirmed.
If anyone has any info please feel free to get in touch.
Heather Dale

Your message is now almost a year old, so my first question is have you fund the information, or are you still looking?
If you re still looking, then I think you have some information incorrect. No-one can Give their name to someone else by deed poll. A person can change their name by deed poll, or if he is a child, the name may (in certain circumstances) have been changed by deed poll,by a parent, but this would have to be registered and it would have appeared in the London Gazette at the time. If you know the name he was registered in, at birth, and the name he was given by deed poll, it might be possible to trace it. There is no death registered in England for anyone named Thomas Shingler.
