HAWK family of Fayette Co.

I believe that my Elijah Hawk, Eli Hawk, and James Hawk, who were in Fayette County, PA in the 1820 census, may have been or been connected to James Hawk who served in the Pennsylvania Militia. James was placed on the military pension rolls when he was 74 years old in 1833. Doing the math, I figure he would have been born in about 1759 and therefore about 17 in 1776. He could have served in the Revolutionary War. Elijah may have had a son James and/or Elijah. We have theorized that the first known Elijah may have come from PA from VA.

I do know that my great great grandfather, James W. Hawk was born on 05 January 1865 in Dunbar, Fayette Co., PA. He married Clara Bell Kees from VA on 20 June 1887 in Dunbar, Fayette Co. when he was home on leave during the Civil War. He died on 27 March 1918 in Pittsburgh, PA.
James Hawk and Clara Bell Kees, had the following children:
Mary Hawk, Charles Henry Hawk, Bertha Cecilia Hawk, Luella Hawk, and James W. Hawk.

James parents were Elijah Hawk (1837 - 1881) and Susannah Hiles (1844 - after 1916), both from Fayette Co., PA. Elijah and Susannah were married in Uniontown, Fayette Co. on 21 March 1864. They had the following children:
James William Hawk, Jacob Hawk, Elizabeth Ellen Hawk, Martin Hawk, Eli Hawk, Lucinda Hawk, John W. Hawk, and Mary Catherine Hawk. Some were born in Fayette County and the later children born in Allegheny County. James W. Hawk, my great-great grandfather lived in Pittsburgh, PA when he died.

I hope this helps you, and may help us find some connection between our familles. My cousin and I are both researching these names. We'd like to hear from you.

Have you come across any information on the Hawk's from RD1 in Smock, near Uniontown. My father was Henry R. Hawk (1925-1984) and his parents were Albert Hawk and Ada Bella Nicola Hawk. There were 12 children. She later remarried to Joseph Federer?

Hi Tonya and Ruth!
Your Albert Hawks were both living in Fayette County at the same time and were close in age.
Ruth's Albert was born in June of 1884 and is the son of John Hawk born bet. 1848 - March 1850 in Maryland and Nancy A. Provance (AKA Minor) born bet. 08 February 1854 - 1856 in Virginia.
I'm told that Tonya's Albert was born on 12 April 1890 in Kecksburg, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania and died in Europe during World War I on 04 October 1918. He is buried in the Old Cove Run Cemetery in North Union Township. I have posted some census attachments with this message that should help show the distinction between these two individuals.

Hi Tonya,
If my information is correct your ggggrandparents were James Hoar and Jane (Jennie) Bronson. Do you happen to know James Hoar's parents names? He's been such a mystery. Thanks, Roz

Hello, my name is Robert Hawk. I was wondering if you could help with some info on William Hawk's parents. My father's name was Robert Dean Hawk, his father was Dean Moyer Hawk, his father was Ross Hawk, and his father was Andrew J. Hawk.
Through this lineage I traced it to William Hawk and Sarah Hoar(if I am correct).
I am just at a loss as to who came before William.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Robert.

Hi Robert,
William Hawk was my gggrandfather. I have been trying to find out who his parents were and what area they lived in. I have not found anything past William Hawk. What I do know about William Hawk is that he had 3 children to Eliza Hoar, 1. Isaac Hawk who died 2-23-1930, 2. Peter Hawk who died 6-6-1941, and 3. Elizabeth who died in 1942. Then William had 9 children to Eliza's sister, Sarah Jane Hoar, 1. James Albert who died8-23-1944, 2. William who died 7-2-1900 in a mining accident along with his brother, 3. David who died 7-2-1900 in the mining accident, 4. Andrew who died in 1945, 5. Simon who died 3-8-1943,6. Lucinda who died 11-25-1876, 7. Netty who died 10-17-1881, 8. John who died 9-6-1947 who was a twin to my ggrandmother, 9. Laura May who died 4-26-1937.

I am happy to meet a cousin of mine,
Maybe together we can find out who William's parents were and where they came from.
Good luck in your research,
Your cousin, Tonya
