I am Balcom on my dad's side, don't have much information
but the farthest back I have been able to get is Maricus Balcom and his
wife Eunice Swetland. Maricus was born in Connecticut
They had 2 sons: Charles and Samuel A. They were both born in New York and came
to Michigan with their parents sometime around 1840's.
They lived in Shiawassee county and Clinton County, MICHIGAN.
I have not been able to locate Maricus parents. I have not been able to find any
details on countys they were born in or lived in. Any information would be of great help

Hi Lori,
If you send me your E-mail address, I'll be able to invite you to view the family tree for Alexander Balcom. It dates back to 1635. Alexander was one of three brothers who came to this country in the mid sixteen hundreds.

We have a great uncle alive here in Michigan who is a Balcom. His name is C Oren Balcom. His sister, our grandma, was a Balcom and had shown me tin pictures of family members in the Balcom family. Many worked in the lumberyards in northern Michigan, lower side.
I am very interested in more info. Do you have a site? My email is nflint@hotmail.com

My husband's gggrandfather was Charles Balcom. He was born in NY abt 10/1857 (I don't know where). A census record says his father was from England and mother from New York. No idea their names. He married Cora Howard (from Michigan) They had Jenny May Balcom (2/24/1885-9/28/1968 born in White Cloud, MI), and another daughter Anna. I have very little, other information. Could this be the same Charles? Karen, winging.it@worldnet.att.net

Jules: I also replied to another Balcom message. My husband's gggrandfather was Charles Balcom (abt 1857 fr NY), married Cora Howard fr Michigan. Children were Jenny May Balcom (2/24/1885 White Cloud, MI - 9/28/1986 Cadillac, MI) and another daughter Anna Balcom (dates unknown, married Michael Haske). Of course with there being 2 girls the Balcom name was not passed down, but my husband spent alot of time in Cadillac, MI and remembers "many Balcoms" living there. Could this be a connection? Karen, my hubby's grandmother who had 14 kids, was born a Balcom. She died in her 80's
in 1986. Her brother is still alive, but had a stroke. His grandma had 2 female relatives who were married,so lost the Balcom name. I will have to ask family to find out what there names were. I believe they are both deceased.

karen,
My gggrandfather was Charles Fayette Balcom from
NY. He married Cora A. Burr, also from NY. They
had a daughter (my MGGM) Nina Leola Balcom who
married Peter Paul Powers. Could these Charles
be of the same family?

Bridget: thanks for your response. I do not believe we have a match, but I will do some checking. The Charles and Cora that are my husband's relatives had a daughter Jenny. When she died, someone (we don't know who) prepared a "book" about her, her life etc. We got the Howard last name for Cora from there, as well as her sister Anna. Since we are not sure who filled in the pages in this book, I can only assume the accuracy of the info. I will keep your e-mail printed out and if I find something out later, I will e-mail you directly if you can send me your address, mine is winging.it@worldnet.att.net

I am Janet Balcomb looking for the connection with all Balcomb's. I have gone back to my ggggrandfather Charles Balcomb wife Cynithia Morehouse. Do you have any idea how we are connected toHenry Balcombe b.1640 in England // Capt John Balcomb b.1697 in Attleboro, Ma.// Alexander Balcombe I have alot of names just have not found the connection. I have written a couple places for the book on Balcomb's no luck. First record of Balcomb was found in Fifeshire in Scotland. I have info on two Balcomb Reunions. 1.Salem,Ma., Friday February 12,1897 2. Second Notice Buffalo,N.Y. August 9-10-11,1901 The oldest living Balcomb was Mrs.Eliza M. Jones of Somerville. The family dates its existence on this continent back to henry balcombe of Charlestown,Mass., where he is on record as owing property in1665. If you have any further info please let me know. I am unable to do much as my husband is disabilied and I can't find a job. Going online is the only way I can afford to get any info. Thanks for any and all help. Janet

Perry, MI to be exact. She is the daughter of Frank and Blanche Balcom. She had 10 brothers and sisters, I only know of 3 of their names so far. They were Genevieve, William, and Charles. Ring any bells?
